Looks like the only way to get held without bail in Austin is when the prosecution is protecting the criminal from La Migre.

If you remember the kid that shot 13,killing 1, on 6th Street several years ago was released on a personal recognize bond.

DA Garza is a communist. Nothing surprising, yet everyone keeps acting surprised.

The constant pearl clutching is past annoying. Governor has to do something. He won't, so might as well ignore it.

What legal options does the governor have?

Were they released on bond?

No, likely due to an immigration hold. Garza doesn't want the criminal deported.

The development comes after a retired Austin police officer blasted the city's left-leaning leadership, accusing the city council of embracing policies that weakened law enforcement before the violent rampage, including the stripping of key tools used by police.

Sadly a very large part of Austin voters fully support these actions of the City Council and are demanding more such actions. The rise in crime is for some reason not a concern for them.

Because it hasn't been personally. But even if it did, they would make excuses. It's truly a sickness.
I don’t get enough credit for the things I manage not to say.

Nothing Abbott can do about a rogue DA.

The legislature would need to change the law to give him that authority.
"If you will not fight for right when you can easily win without blood shed; if you will not fight when your victory is sure and not too costly; you may come to the moment when you will have to fight with all the odds against you and only a precarious chance of survival. There may even be a worse case. You may have to fight when there is no hope of victory, because it is better to perish than to live as slaves." - Sir Winston Churchill

Abbott can control the state funds sent to the University of Texas at Austin. That would get the attention of Travis county officials.

Garza only cares if there is a cop he can indict for something.
