The 17-year-old suspect accused of launching a random shooting spree across Austin has been identified as an illegal immigrant, prosecutors revealed Tuesday.

Cristian Mondragon-Fajardo is one of three suspects who allegedly carried out 12 separate shootings across the city over the weekend, leaving three people injured and another victim in critical condition. The two other suspects, ages 15 and 16, have not been publicly identified due to their age.

The development comes after a retired Austin police officer blasted the city's left-leaning leadership, accusing the city council of embracing policies that weakened law enforcement before the violent rampage, including the stripping of key tools used by police.

Last weekend's violent crime spree targeted the city's first responders, with gunfire striking two Austin Fire Department stations and three fire trucks. Authorities said additional incidents included gunfire damage to five vehicles and four homes, as well as the theft of a firearm and five cars.

Mondragon-Fajardo was reportedly charged with six felonies, including two counts of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, two counts of aggravated assault with a motor vehicle, theft of firearms and evading arrest in a motor vehicle.

Prosecutors said Mondragon-Fajardo is being held without bond, arguing he poses a danger to the community and could face deportation if released, the outlet said.

Mondragon-Fajardo also has an active warrant for allegedly previously stealing a firearm from a local store, where the 15-year-old suspect is accused of stealing another weapon on Saturday.

It is unclear whether Mondragon-Fajardo's co-defendants are being processed through a separate juvenile justice system due to their ages.

They were also apprehended using flock cameras.

They were able to go on a rampage in the areas in the city of Austin where the flock cameras were disabled or removedand made the mistake of going somewhere that had them up and running...

Yea that is a headline and the other two juveniles are American Citizens. The kid who is illegal came over at 7 years old I read. That is on the parents who are probably illegal. This story does not matter. If he was an American Citizen would we be screaming and kicking?

Nope because Americans are weak to blame theit own. At least the judicial system is.

Yep and now Austin is looking to reinstate them.

I live in Hays and Kyle, Buda, and Uhland are the only towns that still have Flock. Kyle is pretty liberal but even the Liberals on Council voted for Flock for the PD. We catch so many criminals robbing the area with Flock

Sadly a very large part of Austin voters fully support these actions of the City Council and are demanding more such actions. The rise in crime is for some reason not a concern for them.

My understanding was that he already had a juvenile record, had been charged with a felony for stealing a gun, and had an ICE detainer out for him in the juvenile system and APD did not turn him over.

Doesn't it feel awesome that our tax dollars paid for that illegal idiot to go to school?

The state needs to pass a law that mandates legal status to attend public schools and mandates that schools ask and legal status.

Correct because the city has restricted APD officers to contact ice. Only way is to report to upper command and let them make the call

I probably am misunderstanding you. As I understand from the thread

1) the libs in Austin don't want Flock
2) Flock is about as privacy invasive as you can be short of putting cameras in your bathroom and livestreaming 24 hours per day.

I don't get the bold?

If the dems are against Flock, then this is one of the rare issues in which I agree with Austin Dems.

WTH? "Mondragon-Fajardo also has an active warrant for allegedly previously stealing a firearm from a local store, where the 15-year-old suspect is accused of stealing another weapon on Saturday."

Two firearms from the same store? Was this a brick and mortar retail type store that sells firearms or was it a personal firearm(s) stolen from under the counter at a mom and pop shop? Either way after the first one you would think store security protocols (if there are any) would be addressed.

I have seen how insanely easy it is to steal from places like Academy, which sells firearms. Saw some meth heads hustle out with a few big shopping carts full of stuff and the staff basically just said "oh no, they're stealing" and got on their walkie talkies.

Would not be hard to ask to see a pistol and then just sprint out of there. What are they gonna do?

The Dems were all for things like body cameras for police.

Until body cameras for police started being helpful for deporting illegals.

Now they are all against body cameras for police.

Flock is just the same. It's not about protecting citizen's rights for Dems. It's about protecting illegals from prosecution.

Bad laws make for strange bedfellows.

Personally, I am more worried about the illegal alien invasion than I am police corruption, so I am generally in favor of Flock.

People that think that Flock is an invasion of their privacy are likely very ignorant about how little privacy they actually have.

This too. But, illegals are also getting IDd in crowds thanks to these cameras.

Same issue, though. Some people hate them because the government is evil and will abuse its power. Some people hate them because the government is evil and won't enforce their own laws.

I absolutely agree that should be the law, but SCOTUS ruled 40 years ago illegal alien children have a right to public education. See Plyler v. Doe in 1982.

What a POS place to live these days… nothing but trash and white yuppies who think they are cool. Demoting their police officers and not supporting them leads to these kinds of acts of violence. Anti-terrorism patriots supported the PATRIOT Act until they figured out it was used against American citizens who were just exercising their First Amendment Rights. These policies often cut both ways.
