Tennessee completed their new map today in a special session (already now signed by governor, pending pathetic lefty lawfare challenge which will fail yet again). Democrats reacted as one would expect to a map that very likely adds a black US Representative to the state.

There's a lot of profanity/screeching/profanity on various videos out there of the voting (I think one Democrat state rep got in a shoving/cursing match with a state trooper). Hopefully this one is clean:

This one is not clean. NSFW
But does show why other TN representatives are saying that stuff like this should get you thrown in jail

Dang, what a clown that guy is!

A reminder that Clyburn's endorsement saved Biden's presidential run in the primary, on the basis that he commit to picking a black female running mate and likewise Scotus nominee. He's essentially responsible for foisting Kamala and KBJ on the nation, is my point. I cannot wait for him to become just a retired private citizen.

David Pascoe (R, but a 'former' D) who is running for the state AG has praised Clyburn as the 'Godfather of South Carolina'.

Told ya'll. There was no way the VA state supreme court would allow that many blatant violations of their state constitution and statutes to let that election result to stand.

VA can try it again, of course. But this time they will have to follow the lw in doing so.

According to their constitution, there is nothing they can do for 2026 at this point.

Over two years, since the measure has to be passed twice with intervening elections before the subject can be put before the voters for a change in the state constitution.

Assuming this past election counts, then it would have to be passed again by the state assembly and then an election which has to be a statewide one, not local.

Possibly hilarious news in Utah re: Dem re-districting shenanigans. Justice resigns after 'rumors' she slept with Democrat plaintiffs attorney in redistricting case.

Utah is so weird I don't think they fix this one seat this cycle, tbf.

I am getting skeptical about SC this cycle. I think they have until the 14th to do a redistricting vote, but Shane Massey did not change his position (he's the Senate majority leader) after talking to Trump, and a 2/3 vote in the state senate is needed to go into special session to vote on the map which the House has passed now.

More:
Quote:

South Carolina House Republicans on Thursday released a proposed redrawn congressional map, calling it a starting point should the GOP-controlled legislature return for a special session to undergo redistricting.

The map was released throughout both chambers after Senate Republicans expressed concerns internally, then publicly, that they'd be forced to vote whether to debate the contentious issue post-sine die without actually having seen a potential map.
...
Senate Majority Leader Shane Massey told reporters he learned of the map Thursday. First impression? "It confirms the concerns that I've had all along," the Edgefield Republican said.
...
Massey has heard twice from President Donald Trump, who has pressured southern states to redraw their maps to help shore up seats in Congress and keep Republican control.

Massey has described both calls as cordial and very positive, not antagonistic, hostile or aggressive.
"I understand why the president's asking. I completely understand that," Massey said. "My concern has been, not that I don't want want to try to help him, I do want to try to help him. But what I don't want to do is make it worse."

Massey said he shared his concerns with Trump and other White House officials. In part, they include the risk of making the map more competitive, keeping communities of interest together and avoiding an overhaul in the state's election calendar.

Republican leaders have said there are no promises they will ultimately redraw the map, only that recent efforts start the process.

Note, I could be wrong about some of that, I don't know their laws etc. He did say both maps would get 'considerable debate' in the upper chamber, but I am skeptical of his intent.

Alabama will be going to 7-0 based on SCOTUS ruling yesterday (6-3) regarding their map.

I think at least 9 holdouts (more likely 10) in the SC GOP state senate (at least 6 would have to vote yes) to eliminate Clyburn's racist district.

Correct. SC is going to try to pass redistricting (again) this week, though the rino's there in the senate (led by Massey again) are planning to try to slow walk a vote on it until it is too late. Bamburg's (D) quote made me laugh and think of this thread.
Quote:

Opponents continued to argue that the proposed maps are racially motivated and illegal. Rep. Justin Bamberg, D-District 90, said pushing the map through would violate basic moral principles and called the effort dishonorable.
Quote:

It's a travesty, a travesty that anybody would put national party-level politics above the duty that we are all called on to represent the people of the state. That's exactly what you do for this. That's EXACTLY what you do if you vote for this," Bamberg said.

Quote:

"I found it deeply ironic that an attorney who selects the judges that he argues in front of and tends to support that idea, was trying to bring that idea, of people in charge of the rules changing the rules, I did find that a bit ironic Rep. Jordan Pace, R-District 117, said.

Yes, because we all know one thing Democrats would absolutely never do is redistrict in a partisan manner to put national politics first.

Hopefully this is the week Clyburn's career is finally ended.

There's some pot of gold for these GOP reps to even spout this ***** They know the dems don't play fair and have gerrymandered New England to the point of no GOP representation. But they act high and mighty like they're above it. They're liars and getting some payola.

I think most of us know the op. when we see it nowadays. I suspect the GOP in SC is just putting on a theater show this week, and have decided not to adopt a new map, in truth, which is why the Dems in their state House did not throw all the theatrics we saw in TN, on Friday.

Could be funny if the senate doesn't betray the state again.

After Bill Cassidy couldn't even make the runoff in Louisiana, I think GOP politicians in the south/red states are not interested in prolonging their careers if they fight redistricting at this point.

Still a work in progress in SC. Rules changed in the House as they had filed 520 amendments hoping to draw out debate, now members can only file one each.

Delicious tears. House should vote today to approve, then it moves to the...senate.

NYT is happy with an obstructionist Republican (their favorite type of course; sen. Shane Massey).

So South Carolina is out?

If they somehow still redraw. Than you have SC (1), Bama (2), and Louisiana (1)

that would put it at 213R VS 203D, with 19 toss ups

But SC looks to have too many RINOs, so it likely ends up 212 to 204

Miss (1) couldn't get theirs done as they have already held primaries I believe

For some reason Louisiana wants to only get rid of 1 black district, not both

Georgia (2 or 3) will do redraw right after elections, hopefully before new Governor takes over as it might be a DEM. For some reason Kemp wanted to wait, probably slap in the face to Trump

No, it's expected the new map will pass the House today and head to the Senate. The senate in special session only needs a majority vote to approve so I think that happens though Massey is being fellated by leftist media for promising to try to slow walk debate thru the 26th.

I suspect they will vote on it anyway by friday or monday, and Clyburn will be gone but I can't find solid sources about the probabilities there; the previous time they did this last month they needed 2/3 majority so they fell 4 votes short I think.

State Senate hearing started this afternoon. It's a cluster**** of rino's trying to kill this in committee/general session debate from what I can see. Keep in mind the state senate cleanly approved by simple majority the new map this month, but at the time (before the special session was called) a 2/3 majority was needed. Majority leader Massey and his allies are trying their best to protect Clyburn this cycle.
