It's unclear if Massey will actually push this thing through in 3 working days (or stay for the weekend).

Massey is still 'concerned' about who drew the map/Dominion merger etc.

A map is an inanimate object. Who drew it, and where/when, shouldn't matter one iota.

Amendment shenanigans on tap:

Massey best enjoy his tenure because he's gone next election!

5-7 seats to get absolutely nothing good done with.

It stops the left's progress. If nothing else that's the biggie. If if Rinos who do nothing, that nothing stops the left. It's all about stopping the left. Anyone who doesn't understand the enemy of liberty, freedom, and life as we know it is the left is the problem.

Also, that 5-7 net gain is a swing of 10-14 total.

He's opposed to it, but not suicidal. I predict they debate this for 3 days, he invokes cloture, and it passes on the 25th. If they go home for the weekend, I will be concerned.

A move today to invoke cloture early will require 2/3, or 31 votes, so at least two of the rino's in their state senate would need to flip.
Quote:

But that vote to invoke cloture early on a White House-backed congressional map requires a two-thirds majority, as questions remain on whether enough senators in the Republican supermajority will agree to limiting debate. If the vote fails, then finishing a congressional map redraw before early voting starts Tuesday will not be possible, state Senate leadership said.

That would include senators meeting Saturday and Memorial Day, as they have been told to prepare for. "If you can't suspend the rules, the earliest that the Senate could pass something is when you have tens of thousands of people standing in line to vote already," said Senate Majority Leader Shane Massey. Massey, who has opposed redistricting, said he will not vote for the rules change.

Moving quickly is important as early in-person voting begins Tuesday for the current congressional districts, and 2,921 absentee ballots have already been returned, including from overseas and the military. Plus, the redistricting process and proposed districts will more-than-likely face litigation, potentially further delaying implementation of the maps.

"As every day goes by, South Carolinians are doing what we ask them to do, which is, be good, civic-minded citizens and going out and voting," said Senate Minority Leader Brad Hutto. "And the more they vote, the harder it becomes to throw out the votes." State Sen. Larry Grooms, R-Berkeley, who supports the House-approved map, told members he's going to push on Friday for cloture, a motion that would set a time limit on how long senators could speak about the bill. The motion would be one day sooner than what rules allow, so the vote will require at least 31 members of the chamber. Only 29 senators voted to take up redistricting after the legislative deadline May 14, as five Republicans opposed the measure.

What does it matter if Rs win? They're only slightly less worthless than Democrats.

It's officially over.

RINOs said they can no longer move forward with redistricting because early voting started today. They KNEW it was starting today, but dragged their feet.

They could've finished redistricting LAST WEEK.

Disgusting is too kind.

Republican No's:
Bennett, Campsen, Cash, Cromer, Davis, Hembree, Johnson, Massey, Peeler, Rankin, Stubbs, & Zell

Citing Democrat's argument that "early voting began today so it's too late."

It looks like it was all a set up, because it was.

Quote:

Several Republican state senators had some things to say about the measure's failure, but this one kind of stands out in the annals of People Who Just Don't Get It:
Quote:

Republican Senate Majority Leader Shane Massey said at the time that the effort would be short-sighted.

"I believe that our state is stronger with vibrant parties. I think we, as a whole, are stronger when we have a clash of ideas. I think that's true at the national level. I think it's true at the state level. We are stronger when we have a clash of ideas and we can discuss those policy goals," Massey said at the time. "Republicans are stronger when the Democrat Party is vibrant and viable."

Really? That may have been true forty years ago. Twenty years ago, even. But now? A state is only stronger with two vibrant political parties when both of those political parties feel that the state is stronger with two vibrant parties. The left, Democrats, they haven't felt that way for some time now. They would crush every national, state, and local Republican candidate under their bootsies, given the opportunity.

The time for all this "two strong parties, collegial, friends after 5 PM" horse squeeze is past. We're in the ring now, fighting for keeps, and the sooner the old school figures that out, the better.

Look, I used to feel like Senator Massey myself, not all that long ago. I thought, as did a lot of people, that if the opposing sides got together and hammered out a deal, the result would usually be for the best. But I haven't thought that way in a while now. Not anymore. Not since they tried the "OMG RUSSIA" crap to throw the 2016 election.

Pathetique.

Do they plan to run as Dems? Because they are not going back as Rs.
