I finally made it to the Analyst / Therapist episode with Bob Loblaw.

this may be the greatest episode of the entire series.

was Charlize Theron already a movie star when this came out?

In 2022 she told EW she loved the show and wanted to save her career from being in "Aeon Flux".

Season 4 was filmed many years later after Netflix bought it. Completely different format, plus most of the actors weren't even in the same room when filming.

I've tried to watch this show twice. I laugh plenty and like all the characters and shorts/memes i come across.
but twice now, I end up watching it more and more infrequently about half way through season 1 until it falls off. I made it to season 2 just one of the times.

I think it's because there isn't anything that makes me want to watch the next episode. Something that say, *****ts creek has.
Im watching SC for second time, and it's hard to stop. AD just doesn't do that for me; like no cliffhangers of anticipation of wanting to know what happens next. It's just random funny scenes maybe?
I don't know.

The reason is probably that you have no concept of what a good comedy is.

The seal is for marksmanship, and the gorilla...is for sand racing. Now if you'll excuse me, they're putting me in something called "Hero Squad."

Pretty gutsy to take on the part of a MRF to make people forget about a failed action movie.

Loved Arrested Development. Had to focus to catch all the jokes and references.

Absolute peak comedy to me is season 3, episode 8, "Making a Stand",

It's basically every single throwaway gag and line, combined with piling in all the different plots into a single episode.

Boyfights, "and that's why you don't," one armed man, Final Countdown, Iraq, another hidden dove, Mexican friends from Columbia, raining pennies, hammer, "It ain't easy being white" etc.

If you've watched the whole series up to that point, it just hits every single note. Single greatest sitcom episode of all time.

that is a fine viewpoint to have and correctly stated

there is really no overall crescendo or point to Arrested Development

it's more stand alone 23 minute vignettes of hilarity

it's basically just pure comedy without a real plot (other than every single episode someone screws up the plans of another family member)

I liked SC until the entire Brokeback Mountain storyline

I can never understand how Buster Bluth (the actor) never was seen from again

not only hilarious at comedy, but very emotive as an actor.

his interaction with his mother is the ultimate of hilarity.

I mean, who THINKS OF THIS INSANITY!!

Tony Hale (Buster) was not only seen from again, he won 2 Emmys for his role on Veep in the 2010s and is known by 700 trillion kid as the voice of Forky in Toy STory.

Tony Hale has been in a lot of stuff, including Veep, although he does more voice work for animated things than live action.

Every time my daughter disregards what my wife or I tell her this immediately runs through my head. Someday I'll share the show with her when she's old enough to appreciate it.

I am still trying to figure out why Season 4 is so much worse than the prior three seasons

1. is it the fact everyone got older and more unattractive?

2. is it that Portia De Rossi LITERALLY looks like a different actress because of her plastic surgery?

3. is is that somehow the show turned mean when before it was just jokily ironic?

4. is it that somehow the storylines are only now showing one character at a time rather than as an ensemble all together in the house?

it just seems OFF

It's this one, combined with Michael's storyline making him particularly unlikable.

YEP

there is an actual podcast totally focused on the disaster that occurred on the reboot

Netflix wanted to do it for cheap

the cast were all in other projects, so some would show up on one day and others on a different day, then the producers/director would have to splice things together

This is a crazy fact that how many Americans would even understand:

BOB LOBLAW the attorney was cast with Scott Baio

BOB LOBLAW replaced Bluth Attorney Barry Zuckerkorn played by Henry Winkler

in real life on the show Happy Days, Fonzarelli played by Henry Winkler is gradually replaced by his cousin Chachie played by...

Scott Baio

also of course the scene where Zuckerkorn is in the bathroom combing his hair and pulls a Fonz

and then literally jumps a shark on the pier with Gob Bluth

One of my other favorite recurring bits is the doctor in the ER and what he says to the family each time they come in.

This one is in the argument for the best moment from the show in IMO. Lucille goes completely unhinged and goes after him, it's just perfect. To this day if anyone is talking about another person's health and they say the word "alright" this immediately comes to mind.

When George escaped from the hospital.

Maybe the only puns in history I can appreciate, just perfect.

I'll cop to some idiocy. I think I was on my third watch through, starting with the pilot, when the whole joke clicked into place for me. I have no explanation, other than I can be a moron at times.
