It's the greatest comedy show of all time. I'm not sure it can be topped.

Doesn't hold up well. Lots of the laughs the first time around. Agree that is is pretty brilliant.

Tried viewing it again and it falls completely flat.

For sure the show has layered comedy but its like once you watch it, you know what's coming and it is not as funny.

Don't worry, that guy hates everything.

The only show that has ever approached Arrested Development for me in terms of ensemble comedic brilliance is The Righteous Gemstones.

I've listened to 5+ years of Smartless podcasts mostly to here GOB and Michael together once a week.

The first 3 seasons of the show are in the argument for my favorite comedy of all time. I tried the new episodes on Netflix and it just didn't work for me, I never even watched them all. The first 3 seasons are just magical. I can remember seeing the first episode sitting at my apartment and thinking someone out there made a show just for me? When you meet someone else who's also a big fan they seem to feel the same way, it's a show just for them. To this day random lines from that show still pop up from time to time. It's probably the show I've rewatched the most on purpose, where I had to put in a DVD or stream it since it's not like Seinfeld or Friends with syndication just putting it on TV somewhere every day for the rest of your life. In addition to how insanely funny it is, it's in the argument for the best cast tv show of all time. I can't think of anyone I'd recast, it's perfect. Another note on the cast I appreciate is that the GOB was originally written for David Cross to play, but when he read the script Cross said that he should play Tobias. I really can't imagine him as anyone other than Tobias, and this was the first thing I ever saw Will Arnett in and he's just so perfect as GOB.

The other week I was flying home from Orange County and the pilot came over the PA system to let us know that for a brief time right after we were up in the air they needed to drop the power because there's a noise pollution law protecting "the rich people on Balboa Island." I believe the original banana stand was supposed to be there on the show so I got a chuckle of that as we were overhead.

I thought the original banana stand was at Newport Beach?

you can really see how Michael Cera plays the same exact character his entire life but is so freaking good at it.

even as a teenager.

Smartless is a podcast with Bateman, Arnett, and Sean Hayes from Will & Grace, they are extremely good friends in real life and started the pod during COVID. They've had a TON of former AD-adjacent guests, including a visit from Conan O'Brien which is probably the funniest hour I've ever listened to.
