I was probably most nervous when he would stand at the edge of various ledges and look down.
same. I felt nervous when he was at the top taking a selfie.

When he stood on the edge on one foot and started cleaning his shoe, I lost it.

Pat gets a lot of hate but this is one of the better interviews I have ever seen with Alex. Hope he gets him on his show again.

Went down the rabbit hole and watched free solo and the dawn wall. Highly recommend both and was neat seeing what Tommy went through and to help Alex with the mental aspect of the solo

I'd also recommend Meru (not Alex but has Jimmy Chin from Free Solo, a great doc)

His fingers are always amazing to me, and how he hangs in his van to strengthen them. That said, I can't help but think it ends poorly, and when it does, it probably will be just some training exercise and not even very high. The real risk is that he's 40 now - that body is about to stop reacting in the way that it has his whole life. That slightly slower reflex, that grip that didn't used to ever falter slipping, etc., that's the watch-out. There are some pro athletes hanging on in their sport at 40, but there are no 45 year olds and there's a reason for that.

Meru is good and also great insight into how completely friggin nuts these guys are. I mean, even crazier than "hey, this crazy guy decided to climb El Capitan with no ropes" crazy.

14 Peaks: Nothing is Impossible is another good one to watch. Nims Purja is insane.

This is the first video I remember seeing Alex in. Whole movie is great but the section he is in starts at the 23 minute mark, and the big climb he does at the 31 minute mark.

I heard another climber on the radio talking about Alex's Taipei climb.

He said it's like telling someone to make 100 layups in a row, with a gun pointed at your head. Layups are 'easy', but if you miss one, you are shot.

I think that's a good comparison. Not a particularly difficult climb technically, but if you don't do every single thing perfectly...

while filming a live TV show, interacting with hosts, people in buildings- camerament hanging

yeah this was way harder than these climbers are giving him credit for

I probably didn't relay it well, but that was kind of the persons point. It seems easy 'technically'...but is way harder to do in reality.

Tommy Caldwell described the stakes in Free Solo pretty accurately when he said it's like an Olympic event where you have to win the gold medal, and if you don't win the gold medal - you die.
