Petty things that really annoy you in movies...

I was rewatching "Heat" the other night for probably the 4th time in the past year, and it got me thinkin...who the hell signed off on Al Pacino constantly chewing and smacking his gum like that? Does it annoy anyone else? It's almost like it was meant to be a device to make him look cool or something, but it just grinds my gears. It is probably my only complaint about the movie. On top of that, I can't stand his delivery when he yells some of his lines, and imo it's one of his poorer acting performances...But I don't want to pick on him TOO much.

But the gum chewing is up there with this kid touching his nose constantly in "Dazed and Confused"...to the point where I'm like, how did the director (or someone) not address this? It's truly distracting once you notice it.

Anyone got any other examples from different movies? Ha, this may be one of the dumbest topics on the Ent board, but I just had to get that off my chest.

I would have put the Dazed and Confused thing at the top, for me. I absolutely love Dazed and Confused, but every time I see him do that, I wonder why Linklater decided to leave that in.

The fake tire smoke in Ronin. It wasn't needed, the chase scenes are already good enough

When characters pull necklaces off someone's neck by just ripping them off. Somehow they always break really easily.

When a character walks into a bar, orders a drink, during the scene takes maybe 1 sip, takes out a bill and sets it on the bar and leaves at the end.

Who leaves a 95% beer?

And they always say just "give me a beer." No brand, no type. Nobody does that.

And why do bad guys always seem to attack the good guy one at a time. They never seem to all jump on him at once.

There is ALWAYS front row parking at any location when the main character pulls up; walk straight in to the building. Every. Time.

Timing issues. "10 minutes till it blows" and then 30 minutes later in the movie it shows "1 minute ".

Movies and TV shows. When somebody brings coffee for everyone.
The coffee cups are quite obviously empty.
Put some water in there or something.
The actors don't even try to act like there is liquid in there.

The fact that in Demolition Man every single weapon in the museum that Simon Phoenix visits is fully loaded and ready to fire.

Not paying attention to military uniform details. It's not a movie, but I can't stand the show Going Dutch because the supposed hard-ass colonel played by Dennis Leary doesn't have his hair within standard. I know it's a stupid comedy, but still. How can you take the military straight-man seriously if he's not even close to the grooming standard.

When they text and you have to pause the movie to read what was written.

And when someone goes to someone else's home unannounced (and how often in real life does that even happen anymore?) whenever they knock or ring the door bell it's like the resident is standing right there every time and answers within milliseconds.

Racking a shotgun just after a character says something tough. Especially after they have just been in a gun fight with more shooting to come. Same thing with a pistol, but slightly less annoying.

lol maybe.

To prevent a beer ordering derail…

I get annoyed with incessant cuts and edits. I love long scene shots. Micheal Bay is the worst offender. Armageddon was so bad with this contrivance that I started counting seconds between cuts in the theatre. Never got above 6 seconds. I'm pretty sure most shots were less than 3 seconds between edits. So distracting to me.

Long shots with no edits are so rare these days they stand out. Tarantino does a lot of these types of shots and I love them (the Bride's entrance to the club looking for O-Ren for example).

1. when 105 pound females who are 5 foot 3 inches- beat up a 6 foot 2 inch male who weighs 225 pounds.

2. throwing someone through a plate glass window or into a glass coffee table or glass cabinet leads to absolutely no cuts, no wounds, no damage at all.

3 when some dude is hit with a baseball bat or pipe in the head and the only thing that happens is the victim moves his head to the side and then keeps fighting

4. incorrect rank insignias for military members, incorrect equipment, incorrect salutes, incorrect usage of "covers" (military headdress)

5. when the government conspiracy is able to track someone like in NCIS instantaneously around the world as they turn right and left on side streets and then vector in trained teams of SEALS instantaneously

When they actually shake the camera and zoom in and out during a battle scene to make it seem more chaotic and intense. Worst I recall is in GI Jane.

When there is a gunfight going on and the protagonists are moving through a building/compound/etc. and a henchmen has the drop on the heroes, misses their shot, and the protagonists turns around and drops them with one shot.

It's really bad in TV shows like Reacher (which I enjoy.)

weird peeve, but it's mine.

Watching sports movies in which the actor or actresses are not athletes. Also the same thing in regard to referees or umpires.

It never really annoyed me but watching 70's and 80's car chase scenes and they always have wet roads

In the first and 3rd Indiana Jones films you never see him with luggage yet he does change outfits
