And the train ride from Georgia to Colorado- that would have been fraught with problems and delays. I get that wasn't the point of the show, but that kind of stuff takes you out of it.

Yeah, the type of show the writers are aiming for takes a long time to properly buildup. We're talking at least 3-4 old-school style 23 episode seasons. They're foolish to attempt it in three 8 episode seasons.

They "yada yada" over quite a few things don't they?

They are pretty loose with time on the show.

Remember that Link/Dylan knocks up annie, X finds her, she gives birth/dies, X goes to Georgia finds his wife, they travel back, etc.

That right there has to be at least a year or more. But they are flying so the episodes so fast that you just have to accept the time jumps.

In the show's defense, when Xavier flies out of the bunker, Annie is already close to 9 months pregnant. When she finds him after the crash, she gives birth just a few days after. I think X was only gone from the bunker for maybe 2 months.

I should have clarified better.

From episode 1 of season 2 until the last episode, about a year had passed to justify the timeline.

We just don't have any concept of time because of how the episodes are structured.

The crowd reaction when the mountain collapsed - you could almost hear the director shouting thru his megaphone - "everyone on 3 put your hands up and look away like you saw something scary - all at the same time"

That said it was entertaining but felt like a cliff note version of the show.

When Sinatra mentioned the Denver Airport, I literally shouted "No way!"

I love that the writers took advantage of all the real-life conspiracy theories around it! (If you're not familiar, do a Google search on it. Perfect reference!)

Loved the Blucifer sighting.

I appreciated they were telling everyone they needed to get as far away as they could because the mountain was going to be destroyed in a nuclear explosion. By all appearances they stopped after they got like a mile away and were also happy to setup shop on the road and camp in the shadow of the destroyed mountain which is likely to be emitting some level of radiation since there were multiple nuclear reactors inside that melted down.

  • I saw no reason why the reactors would melt down just because the doors were being forced open and then forced closed. They probably would have just gotten stuck, or one command would have overridden the other. If the system were designed by smart people, they would open no matter what given that the air supply was running out.
  • My wife kept asking why the ceiling tiles were falling down when there was nothing happening yet to make that happen.

I agree with what others have said, the show would have been better served with at least 10-12 episodes so that things didn't feel rushed and still had time for the flashback episodes, etc.

But overall, even with the flaws, I enjoyed season 2 and look forward to the conclusion in season 3.

The incredibly unlikely confluence of events causing the meltdown is Alex, right? I think we are SUPPOSED to think it seems like a wildly unlikely coincidence.

I'm sure, but we'll see if they ever explain that Alex actually did something to the reactors, or if we're just supposed to believe it happened for the reasons stated.

In the process of meltdown I think there were smaller explosions and rumbles before the big boom causing the tiles to fall.

If I recall correctly the plan for the engineer guy to escape was to start a meltdown which then would trigger the o2 alert and force the door open. Due to him getting blown up the process was not stopped as intended.

The O2 alert was caused by them, smashing the valves on the air tanks and releasing all of the air.

Oh yeah that is right. But I thought the accidental kaboom was associated with the meltdown. Not that I know a dang thing about nuclear reactors aside from watching Chernobyl!

No I think the show set it up as "here's a weird combination of events that would never happen naturally, and it's a known issue with the system but so unlikely it's not worth addressing." And my take is that Alex, through...whatever mechanism it uses...set events in motion so that both things would happen simultaneously.

Ah gotcha that is highly likely. Doesn't seem like it would be hard for Alex to corrupt the computer systems.

The meltdown thing was stupid. They mentioned they are sodium modular reactors. The fuel in those reactors is already in a molten state and runaway heating actually causes them to shutdown.

They are essentially meltdown proof. And under no scenario would they explode with enough force to destroy a mountain. Chernobyl wouldn't even do that.

Lol, it was crap writing. "It's just tv" doesn't excuse that.

Thinking on this some more, it honestly feels more and more like typical broadcast TV basic sh *t.

Ten years ago this would be on CBS Friday night. It's not anywhere near the quality of the high level streaming series we've gotten used to.

So I'm also not surprised it's doing big numbers lol

Hollywood almost never gets the technical details right, regardless of the subject. So I somewhat give that a pass as "to be expected".

I rather liked the whole season and appreciated that they didn't linger too long outside of Paradise. Some series, its about the journey - like Fallout. This series is about the destination - Paradise.

I don't think Alex caused the meltdown - I think it was trying to ensure the pieces were in place to alter time and undo all of this after the meltdown.

Thinking about it the whole nonsense with the agent aside the introduction of Alex seems like some sort of deux ex machina element to save them from the survivalist vibes in season 1
