A reboot that no one asked for but strangely, a reboot that no one knew we needed. I like the different approach to this story. Good cast.

Miami Vice was the ultimate time and place series. It worked because of how they leveraged MTV style music which was huge at the time, introduced the country to the cocaine trade which was new and a huge thing at the time,(the Miami drug wars in particular), Miami was still an exotic destination (ironically drug money kinda built the city), and all against all the over the top colors everywhere and grit vs. cheese ratio that defined the 80's. Don Johnson in parricular was perfectly cast as well. Same with EJO.
Not sure that Magic will ever be duplicated because it was all a part of the moment. The nostalgia part would be fun though if they did it right.

Nostalgia is difficult to pull off, but it can be done. And you're absolutely right about Miami Vice - that series was definitely an 80s thing. In the hands of the right filmmaker, a nostalgia-driven movie can work great. I'll point to Super 8 as an example. That one had a feel of 70s/80s Spielberg but also 50s monster movies. It also spoke to me on a personal level as I was a kid like those in the movie making 8mm movies (although silent films), and when Super 8 came out, I had just lost my mom.

I'd love to see it set in the 80s. Give us pastel and neon and Ferarris and Wayfarers and cocaine with stereotyped Latin drug dealers and just have fun with it.
