I like how the worry is the random stranger bringing you your food - like the cheeseburger you ordered is coming out of a spotless kitchen with a 4-star chef at the helm.

Like anything, it's a matter of what your time is worth. For some, driving 15 minutes and/or waiting in line isn't worth an extra $5 for delivery. For some it is.

It's a lot more than $5, partly because they jack up the menu prices by anywhere from 25-40% before hitting you with the fees. And it's more cold. Nothing like a cold $20 chick fil a meal delivered by Habib 40 minutes later when I could have crushed a hot meal 20 minutes earlier if I'd just been willing to move my lard ass off the couch for a few minutes

It varies from store to store, and it's not difficult to figure out if you somewhat regularly dine-in or drive-thru. Also depends on your credit card perks (I believe Sapphire offers free "Dash Pass" which discounts everything significantly).

If you're getting cold food, complain -- their automated system will 9 times out of 10 reimburse you for it. But I do agree there are certain foods you don't want delivered. Pizza, burritos, etc... will keep. Burgers are hit or miss, just depends on the location.

Obviously you are still paying more, but end of the day it's still a cost-analysis of what your time is worth.

10 minute drive to Chick-Fil-A, 10 minutes waiting in the drive-thru, 10 minutes driving home. So half-an-hour all-in.

What is half an hour of your time worth?

If $15 Whataburger is worth it to you, then $22 Whataburger delivered is only a calculation of if the time you saved is worth $7 -- not if the Whataburger was actually worth $22.

Unfortunately one that opened 25 years ago and has no room to expand.

The line moves quick, but it's still routinely wrapped around twice.

Right. CFA is a consistent 15 minute round trip for me. If I'm ordering at a peak time, I may do carry-out and click "i'm already here" when I leave the house. In and out pronto.

Well to be fair not all of us live 5 minutes away from a strip mall.

I think you're discounting how many people are under the influence of something when they order food delivery.

I don't get third party food delivery often, but when I do, I'm min. 3 drinks in, otherwise I'd go get it myself.

I also will not order unless it's a decent discount, so my cost is not much more than if I had gotten it myself.
Either a 40% off thing, or a BOGO of some sort.

I think many people view it as the "price of the meal" rather than what you are actually paying for - delivery.

One it's viewed in that framing, it simply comes down to what $ value you put on time. House cleaner, oil change, valet parking... It's all just trading $ for time.

Drive through speaker: "What would you like to order today?"

Me: "The combo."

Drive through speaker: "That will be $12.53. Drive around please."

Me: "For how long?"

People who use Doordash and the like are peak laziness. (And stupidity for how they waste their money.)

Fast food is the lazy option to begin with. When you can't even get off your ass to go pick it up, something is very wrong.

Yes, my estate was unable to be large enough to push strip malls more than 5 miles away

This x10000. Ordering from a fast food place or restaurant is about the same risk of DD. And most of the places I order from the up charge is minimal

Waste my money? I have plenty. Is it a waste of money to fly first class?? How bout buying a 100k car? Or car service vs uber/taxis? Let people spend how they want

I don't even like people bringing me my food. Put it on the counter and I'll eat there or take as my preference.

You make good arguments which I cannot contest.
However, I don't do Doordash or UberEats, I prefer to drive and pick up. My personal preference. I feel it is too expensive. I don't like paying some 50% more than food cost (add tax, tip, Uber cost). It's just me. A nice drive is fun.

Why even waste money on a restaurant when I can just cook at home?
