Like him or not, Hamlin was fantastic today. Multiple challengers across the last 50 laps that all seemed to have some equipment advantage and no one could get by Hamlin.

This was a perfect track for him. It eats tires and he's one of the best if not the best at managing them at these tracks. Him, Brad. Those older guys are so much better at it than the younger drivers.
I thought it was stupid on the next to last restart for Elliott to give Briscoe outside row 2 instead of making him take inside row 2.

So I'm just watching the end of Days of Thunder and got to thinking...in the age of data driven sports decisions, what's stopping a team near the back at a super speedway on a restart doing something like what Cole was able to do after the "linkage was twisted"?

This is an interesting rule book update just now. NASCAR has a new policy where they can limit the number of entries to 40. That's some BS level stuff there. Either Charters are protection for making the field or they aren't. So now they protect 23XI?
Having said that, it's pretty moot. Daytona always has more cars than spots. And I read where the Chicago road course had more cars than spits but that's been the only other race besides the 500 where that has happened.

I definitely don't mind the idea of an in-season tournament. But having the first round be the most narrow plate track sort of throws out any legitimacy of the tournament. Just call it a lottery and it would be more honest.
If they're gonna do it then Atlanta, Daytona, Talladega or honestly a road course maybe shouldn't be part of it.
I get that it's gotta be the 5 TNT races since that's who sponsored it, but agree that the 5 that were part of their tv package this year was nice the 5 to do it.

NASCAR today suspended Austin Hill one race for intentionally wrecking Aric Almirola at Indianapolis. Richard Childress Racing says it will not appeal the penalty and will have Austin Dillon in the No. 21 Xfinity Series car this weekend at Iowa Speedway.
