LAIE, Hawaii – Texas A&M women’s basketball returned to the win column after a dominant second half against Colorado, 59-46, in the final game of the North Shore Showcase at the Cannon Activities Center Tuesday.
The Aggies (5-1) forced Colorado (5-2) to a season-low 46 points thanks to Ny’Ceara Pryor and the Maroon & White defense that forced 20 turnovers. Pryor logged seven steals of her own along with a game-high 23 points and six assists. Jordan Webster once again came in clutch, scoring all nine of her points in the second half. Janae Kent pitched in 14 points and Fatmata Janneh grabbed 15 boards.
Kent had a dominant opening to the first quarter, scoring all of the Aggies’ six points in the first four minutes, 6-1. Pryor continued the momentum for the Maroon & White, scoring five points to create a six-point lead to end the quarter, 15-9.
Coming out of the quarter break, Colorado poured in eight unanswered points to take the lead, 17-15. The Buffaloes were riddled with eight turnovers forced by the Aggies, allowing seven points throughout the quarter. Kent’s 3-pointer and Pryor’s jumper within the final two minutes cut the Colorado lead down to one at the half, 25-24.
The Buffaloes momentum carried over to start the second half, scoring the first four points, 30-24. Webster’s late 3-pointer and Pryor’s two jumpers gave the Maroon & White the lead for the first time in the half, 40-37.
Starting at the 2:40 mark in the third quarter, the Aggies held Colorado scoreless for 6:51 of gametime. The Aggies went on a 12-0 run during the drought, sparked by two triples from Webster and six points from Pryor to take a 45-37 advantage. Texas A&M continued that dominance for the rest of the ball game, expanding its lead to 13 by the end of the bout, 59-46.
