Reed Arena has just under 13K seats, the average attendance in NCAA VB is 5-8K (skewed by three teams) in 2025. We are good for now, but should be looking ahead a few years for planning purposes.

Jamie doesn't want a VB only facility. He wants to fill Reed.

He actually would like a bigger vb arena than Reed because of the explosion of interest in vb. But he is realist enough to understand that probably wont happen.

That is true. He didn't like Texas having matches in Moody because Moody holds more than Reed.

Sips play maybe 1 match a year in Moody. The sips actually want to build a 6k mini moody for VB and other events

We should wait until they've built theirs and then we build ours just a bit bigger.

I don't think we have to worry about I'd be shocked if we ever built VB only venue

not VB only but multi purpose maybe

Breakaway, VB, concerts, and other events

A great VB venue could have the state tourney for UIL as well

You might get a basketball VB multi, use center built if the county and both cities fund it and it's built where Hensel Park is currently located.

But I doubt those egos could ever come together and work on project like this and pull it off

Quote:

The revenue was supposed to come from proceeds from a land sale. That came up short

It wasn't a land sale at the time. Of course, it was eventually going to be sold. The state was "uncomfortable" with the valuation that we put on the property. Of course, the state was in the hands of leaders unfriendly to A&M at the time, loads of jealousy. The land was in West Houston, roughly at Beltway 8 and Westheimer, and roughly 250 acres of land there.

The appraisal from 1992 is probably 5% of worth what the land is worth today. The Reed family gave up what was a very valuable piece of land.

The Reed Arena floor plan was developed in 1981 or 1982. As such, it closely resembles the "civic center" design that was being constructed back then, even though it was finally built and opened in the mid to late 90's.
