Ending the regular season on a high note.

No. 6 Texas A&M volleyball swept Georgia on Sunday in its final regular-season match of the season in front of 5,751 at Reed Arena. A&M’s 22-3 record is its best start since 1984, marking a historic season for the Aggies.

The reigning SEC Setter of the Week, Maddie Waak, had 37 assists as she surpassed 1,000 assists for the season. She is the first Aggie to achieve this feat in back-to-back seasons since Camille Conner in 2018 and 2019.

“She should be an All-American,” A&M head coach Jamie Morrison said of Waak. “I think she’s winning the SEC awards, but I’m hoping, at the end of the year, she gets the national recognition. Our offense wouldn’t be what it is without her distributing.”

National Player of the Year semifinalist Logan Lednicky led the offense with 13 kills, as she officially ends the SEC slate with double-digit kills in every conference match this season.

Ifenna Cos-Okpalla and Kyndal Stowers each had 10 kills, while Emily Hellmuth had eight.

Multiple ties marked the beginning of the opening set until an ace from Stowers put the Aggies in the lead, 13-9, causing the Bulldogs to take a timeout. The Maroon & White then went on a 4-0 run, increasing its lead to seven.

Of the Aggies’ 22 wins, 14 ended in sweeps, including nine in conference play.

A&M continued to dominate, taking the set 25-13.

The second stanza began with four early ties, but the Aggies quickly took control, as they led 15-10 going into the media timeout.

A service error from Georgia put the Maroon & White within five points of a set win, and on her ninth kill of the day, Lednicky closed out the set, 25-17.

The first five points of the final frame belonged to A&M, which caused Georgia to call a timeout as they sought to end the Aggies' torment.

The Bulldogs were unsuccessful as the Ags continued to control the match, and down 13-3, they called their final timeout.

Georgia came back with slightly more fire, but it was too little too late, and a kill from Megan Fitch ended the match, 25-13.

A packed Reed Arena for an early Sunday match marked the second-highest attendance this season and fourth-most in program history. This level of fan support is precisely what Morrison came here for.

“I’m just blown away and thankful, there’s gratitude and pride also,” Morrison said. “I came here for building this because I love the sport of volleyball, and I wanted a passionate fan base to be able to experience that and fall in love with it the way that I love it.

“I don’t think I can express enough gratitude for what I have for the 12th Man, for the way they’ve shown up in terms of numbers, the way that people show up with passion, the way that people want to support. They want to help us win, and it’s helping.”

The Aggies close out their regular season second in the SEC with a 22-3 overall record and 14-1 in conference play. The SEC tournament will begin on Friday, Nov. 21, in Savannah, Georgia, but A&M will have a double bye and won’t play again until next Sunday.

“It’s just a special group,” said Lednicky. “A lot of us have been here and seen the progress, and a lot of people have joined along on the way. It’s cool to see just how far we’ve come and end the season on a high note.”
