In the Bay Area a local pediatrician group vaccinated 1000 patients last Saturday from 5-11. It's interesting to me though not surprising how regional this is.KidDoc said:

The EUA was specifically designed to prove efficacy not safety. Only 2300 kids got the vaccine which is enough to show short term efficacy but not to evaluate safety with rare side effects.
I'm very optimistic that the safety data will look excellent in a few months due to the lower dose. I'm hopeful this concept will be extended to the teen group as well as I don't think they need their current dose for protection and the myocarditis risk is no joke.
My only long term concern is duration of protection with the lower dose in this age group, only time will tell for that. Also curious to see what efficacy in preventing community spread which has been iffy with the Delta variant in the older population.

I fully agree with your last point (vaccine or infection). I don't agree that infection is inevitable which is what some were arguing up thread. My apologies again for misidentifying Synagis as an RSV vaccine (although now I know why it was so short lived).

Apart from the kids having to do virtual/online school from March 2020 until June 2020 we haven't done anything differently. Out and about 100% and not worried in the slightest. Going the the gym, restaurants, and all the kids' activities without a concern. Both my wife and I got covid after Thanksgiving last year and it was a big nothing, not even a bad sinus infection. And that's as a fat dude (but otherwise healthy, however I've lost about 35-40# since then and am still working on losing more). We had it at the same time so we couldn't isolate from the kids and they never had a sniffle. Since then I can't even count the number of close contacts for us and the boys with zero issue whatsoever. With the vaccine mandate and our respective employers mandating vaccination we felt we had to go ahead and get it done (J&J). Thankfully that went smoothly other than a day of feeling crappy afterwards although I had pretty bad diarrhea for about a week afterwards which is a known side-effect of the J&J and that sucked. Anyway, we're still a hard "no" on the boys (11 & 7) on getting the vaccine- they're completely healthy, active, and no underlying issues whatsoever so we don't see the point at all.

This. There are 3 - 6 year old kids who know nothing in their life but living in fear and seeing their parents cower at the thought of this virus and causing them to bleach fruit and scream at people who do not wear masks.
If they are ever able to un-do the damage mentally to some of these kids, it will likely take years. My sad prediction is we have a new normal for a large number of kids and that is a heightened sense of concern/panic + masks + gallons of hand sanitizer....
Perhaps that is what he is attempting to say, although he articulated it terribly.

The vitriolic responses to someone sharing that their children are doing well after being vaccinated is pretty sad. As though we don't all wish those children well. My family (including children) have been vaccinated. Most of us are perfectly healthy and at low risk of long term repercussions from COVID. However, if we catch it, the vaccine will mitigate that risk and reduce the period in which we are likely to infect others. Perhaps that will prevent us from infecting someone like my grandmother, who died from COVID in May.

The mandates are here and we are doing great and living normal life unless afraid of perfectly safe vaccine. 85% of local communities have been vaccinated so we are good. Plus, we will all have three hands soon.planoaggie123 said:

Don't lump all of CA together. I live in San Diego. In the last two months I've traveled to Columbus, Philly, Vegas and LA. All way more restrictive than SD. My kids are still forced to mask in schools, but no where else do we mask here.
