Starts around the 2 hour mark into the show. It is after coach Turner
God loves you so much He'll meet you where you are. He also loves you too much to allow to stay where you are.

Sounds like Aiden Sims and Freshcorn are the current front runners for the Sunday starting spot.

Can't wait to see what TK and Nut do on the bases this season.

I've listened a couple times now, and I think there are some indicators as to the internal problems with last year's team -- things we largely suspected but I think are further confirmed by how Earley describes this year's roster. Egos, dissatisfaction with the lineup/field placement, etc. -- all holdovers from the toxic culture created by POS.

With that kind of splintering in the locker room, plus the massive culture shift implemented by Earley & Co., it's no wonder the team's performance suffered. That also explains why they played lights out during last year's exhibition games and promptly stumbled when the real games with the real lineups and assignments started in February. Might also explain some lineup decisions that we couldn't understand....?

Ideally, all those guys transferred out (either voluntarily or with strong encouragement). Based on Earley's comments, the first test is actually the exhibitions (who starts, who plays late) so he should have some indications soon of this team's trajectory, and hopefully we will too.

Just some rambling, Friday morning thoughts!

I thought the same thing. IIRC he said something about being a good Teammate that led me to think that

Yep, exactly. And the leaders of the team being buddies off the field, but on the field they're your teammate and that's two different things.

Internal "problems" may have in fact contributed, but I'd say an equal (if not larger) contribution was the injuries. We basically played the season without GG and Sorrell. Those are two massive pieces that we missed. No way we would have missed the postseason if those two guys were healthy all season.

Hacopian, Sdao, Stewart, McCoy won't play, but Gavin will bat only. They don't want him diving on that shoulder yet. We already know that will be two infielders in the everyday lineup that won't be out there tonight.

Hacopian may play against TCU.

I still really like Earley and am optimistic about this year.

I am ready to be hurt again.

Agreed, injuries were definitely a significant issue. But I feel like that was widely known. I think this interview helped shed some light on the lack of production from our uninjured players.

I don't think it was a "culture" or toxicity problem in the normal sense. I think the biggest issue with the team last year (not including injuries) was the unanimous number 1 ranking next to their names going into the season.

I think the combination of being ranked #1 and a coach who was trying to find his voice as head skipper led to a lot of complacency. I doubt it was anything malicious because by all accounts we had some great, high character guys but some players didn't push themselves properly. Once the early season struggles started to pile up, it was too late and players started trying to play too much hero ball when we got down in games because there was no more safety net.

It does sound like Earley is more confident in this interview and is treating this offseason differently. I think he is a great man, and I really hope he gets it right this season.

No reason to guess at this time. It will be crystal clear for all by the end of this next season.

We were swept by Mizzou with Sorrell in the starting lineup if I remember correctly.

Is the idea that the toxic culture was created by him leaving and the manner in which he did it? I ask because there wasn't much talk of a toxic culture while he was here and we were winning.

He fosters a toxic culture but knows how to manage it successfully.

TBH, I wasn't able to pay attention much until about halfway through his final regular season here -- tiny tyrants birthed from my loins, and all that....

However, I've spent quite a bit of time over the last year and a half digging into the past (cuz nerd at heart), and what I have observed is that those who knew what was up (like trouble, dermdoc, among many others) felt compelled to keep quiet about the negative things they knew because the general consensus on TexAgs was "Nobody cares about the toxicity as long as we're winning."

And then, of course, as soon as POS skulked out of here, the loudest cheerleaders were also the loudest condemners, as per usual. But those who always had a sideways feeling continued to quietly state the truth.

So my takeaway has been the toxic culture was created when POS got here, but very, very few people cared until he left, because we were winning. And then Earley was left to mop up the sh*t left behind, attempt to put back together the pieces of a puzzle that was missing way too many pieces, all while under the most finely tuned microscope in all of college baseball.

This interview was incredibly enlightening, for those who could hear what he *wasn't* saying....

Interesting. Personally I think people should call it how they see it regardless of who may get offended or upset. By not saying anything until the situation is resolved it makes what is said hold less weight generally. It makes genuine issues observed come off as bandwagoning instead of an honest accounting of events. I'm pretty blunt though so what do I know about the right way to handle something like that.
