Up by 2 you have to set your defense and make them drive. You can't give up an open 3. UF played that like there were 3 seconds left instead of 9.
Up 1, you can play that way because you kind of want them to shoot the 3, but up 2, you can't do that. Still have nightmares of AK with the late close-out against LSU in the round of 32.
You play it like UCLA played Sloan. Force a 2, dare the ref to call a foul, and dare him to make both FT.

Letting that Iowa guard run free from the inbound is the mistake. Gotta deny. At worst running to your basket. Dude caught it full speed at his basket and had all day to find the open shooter. Horrible defensive play call AFTER a timeout. Hilarious.

I have almost never seen a team foul to put someone on the line up by 2. Up by 3 is a diff story. But up by 2, they make the FTs, you lose in OT then coach would be flogged.

Did you actually watch it? Iowa player caught inbound pass on the run, 4-8 feet in front of defender and took off. By the time he was in the front court nearing another Florida defender, he passed. There was no ability for UFl to commit a live ball foul in that situation. Iowa dictated the need for 2 defenders in the front court.
it was a dangerous pass, but really well executed. Props to the iowa coach and PG, they really aced that test at the most important moment.
