This game is going to tell us a lot about ourselves. We're coming off our worst game in a while, the crowd will not be as big or as juiced, and this is an opponent that will be more than happy to beat us if we aren't locked in.

Their season:

- Hard to find a team more bubbly than Mizzou. Want some good wins? We got that. How about a road win over Kentucky and home wins over Florida and Auburn. Want some head scratching losses? Dropped a non-con game to Notre Dame and they have a road loss to LSU and narrowly avoided a devastating home loss to Oklahoma in overtime. They've also been absolutely nuked a few times by Kansas, Alabama, and especially by Illinois.
- They have quite the stretch of games starting with this one, which can cut both ways. If they get hot, there's some opportunities here to really jump up the seed line. If not, they could get absolutely buried.
- This is the kind of sneaky good offensive rebounding team I kinda worry about. It's one thing when you're playing a known elite team like Florida or Tennessee, everyone is locked in on rebounding, but Mizzou has an offensive rebounding percentage over 36% as well. Though they haven't been overly good at it against good teams.
- They are a very good two point shooting team and will get to the basket a lot. They have one of the lower three point rates you'll see of a potential NCAA Tournament caliber team.
- Missouri also absolutely sucks at free throws, which means at Reed they'll shoot at least 80%.

Individual notes:
- Mizzou has two high-rate-high-quality shooters in the 6-8 Jacob Crews (47%!) and 6-4 Jayden Stone (41%).
- This is another tall team, but not in the same way that Florida was. They're a little bit like our 2016 team where there's one or two truly tall guys you have to worry about at any given time, but their size is really in their across-the-board length. The shortest guy they'll put on the floor is 6-3.
- Unlike Florida also they don't have any one guy that's just overwhelmingly good on the offensive boards, though Jevon Porter is good at it.
- Our help defense is going to have to be pretty locked in because both Mark Mitchell and Shawn Phillips are dunk threats at basically any time. These two are going to be a situation where we need to use our fouls strategically at times. Phillips is an absolutely terrible FT shooter and Mitchell isn't a very good one, but we also don't need to give them free bonus points by fouling on lost causes. Vinson and Federiko are both pretty bad about doing this. They need to learn from Marcus Hill and if you're going to foul, foul early in the shot attempt and make sure they don't make it.

Stray thoughts
- If Florida was our nightmare matchup, we (and Alabama) might be Missouri's. Florida is #335 in defensive three point rate, meaning their opponents shoot an absolute ton of threes. Problem for Missouri is they also make a ton, they're also #274 in defensive three point percentage. They are among the nation's best at defending 2's, but they will foul a lot.
- Mizzou does not particularly like to play at tempo, and teams haven't been particularly good at forcing them to. They've only played two non-OT conference games with more than 70 possessions, with one of them being their blowout loss to Alabama. The other a win over Mississippi State.

- To me this is a game that looks good for us on paper and I expect we'll be pretty big (8-9 point) favorites. We need to shake off the last game, come out and fire away with confidence, stress their guards, and I think we can win this one fairly easily and get back on track for a big-but-winnable game against Vandy this weekend.

Yeah I meant to include that, this is at the heart of their issues is that they both turn it over a lot and do not themselves force many turnovers. #262 in TO% offense, #201 in TO% defense.

Also, we've absolutely owned Missouri, even through the BK years.

We've won 16 of the last 20 in this series, I can't imagine there's another major conference program that we've done better than that against at any stretch of our history. Need to keep that one alive.

Shooting is like putting is in golf. Just takes a few to start dropping and the confidence can come right back.

This is probably the first "must win" or close to "must win" game for us this season if we want to avoid sliding towards the bubble

Makes it a lot more tenuous down the stretch if we lose this one

I remember during the Turgeon years where we won some big games against Mike Anderson's teams as underdogs. Seems like one or two of those games helped move us off the bubble.

Mizzou basketball fans must hate us.

Putting?

Confidence?

Non conference blow outs they didn't have stone or pierce.

Stone especially is a huge piece. He's been playing consistently at a high level.

Pierce is interesting, I can't decide if he's causation or correlation, he's been his best in their best games, and he's been less good in some of their worst.

Really only two games where his performance went the other way from the team. He was good in the LSU loss andnot as good in the South Carolina win.

-more sets for Dominguez to get going
-Pop making better decisions with the ball
-better 1/2 court defense
-If our press is going to get beat, we better not give coast to coast layups

I think we shoot the ball better and get a must win game vs Mizz.

Lane need to make better decisions with the ball too. Pop kind of is who he is and you have to hope the good outweighs the bad (which it did against Florida.)

But Lane's shoot/don't shoot decisions were pretty bad last game. He'd be open for an in-rhythm three and pass it up and then later shoot one that wasn't really in rhythm. And then he had some open looks at the basket on cuts but I think he was so freaked out by Florida's bigs he was passing on them.

If by "bad" you mean timid, then yes he was timid. The team as a whole played timid and even affected Agee as well.

In the 2nd half of the game, I wanted to see who would step up and it's clear to me that Pop and Hill will have a bigger role in how our season ends up. Of course, in a blow out game it's hard to decipher much of anything of value, but I was optimistic in that we have guys that aren't going to be afraid nor timid against an imposing team like Florida.

In the past 3 games, Hill has shot 69% overall and 45% from 3 point land and averaging over 16 points a game so his contributions will have to continue in order for us to beat the good teams.

They were very cordial and inviting in Columbia last year. Even after us going and giving them their only home loss of the year. Myself, my wife and 2 daughters had a blast. All of my Mizzou in-laws are good folks too. I've yet to meet the ones that hate the Ags.

Our lack of team athleticism is starting to make these games very difficult to win.

Teams are becoming more disciplined against our pressure. We can't finish at the rim and the size mismatches all over the court are forcing us to scramble and rotate making our already obvious rebounding deficiencies even more glaring.

I'm not sure what that last OB play call was. You move 3 players far away from the ball and leave Agee in iso hero ball with no outlet. WTF?

For this team to win it has to generate more possessions than the other team. Just didn't do that tonight. Mizzou took 7 more shots than A&M and made 6 more. Even FT attempts. We were fortunate to be within 1.

Teams have film on us and can game plan. We have to adjust.

333 in non-steal TOs...we didn't force Mizzou into mistakes they usually make.

- we played no defense.
- we didn't box out
- 13-0 fast break points
- 56-28 points in the paint. At least five missed layups.
- 16-8 offensive rebounds.

That's not gonna win you many games no matter how well you shoot
I know a lot about a little, and a little about a lot.

I disagree with a lot of this. I think we played hard. You just can't effectively box out when you have to chase and double every opposing threat because you just can't athletically match up.

Agee had Rylan as an outlet at the point and he was open. Agee just didn't see him or had already committed to putting his head down and forcing the one-on-one.
