We had two games last year listed with a higher attendance than the Texas game yesterday, that is surprising to me.

Chalk it up to a holiday game. While the students showed up in an impressive way I can only imagine how packed it would have been while school is in session.

Surprising, the place was full to the top row of seats. Could have squeezed more in but did not seem like there were 1000 empty seats. I would have estimated 300-400 under full capacity.
I was also pleasantly surprised that there were only a few Texas fans there.

Agree, hardly noticeable, I was surprised

Don't like working so quick trip down memory lane to 2007-2008, when we set our highest average attendance of 10,343:

18-4 at home, 22-9 overall and 8-8 in conference before post season. Coming off Sweet 16 appearance prior year (lost to Memphis 64-65)

McNeese State 73-50 9276 (strong out of gate)
Oral Roberts 67-53 8442 ("NIT Season Tip Off")
UTEP 81-76 8429 ("NIT Season Tip Off")
Ouachita Baptist 85-59 8237 ("NIT Season Tip Off")
Alabama 76-63 10328
Texas State 109-73 9879
Arkansas Pine Bluff 64-37 7789
Detroit 79-39 8912
UC Irvine 88-66 8064
Florida A&M 83-54 8089
Rice 68-41 8702
LSU 79-53 12255 (Jan 5)
Colorado 86-69 12634
Baylor 110-116 5 OTs 12234
Texas 80-63 13555 (!)
OU 60-52 13158 (!)
OK State 54-59 13584 (!)
Nebraska 59-65 11207 (home loss to OSU, followed by big loss @UT, cost us some fans? Then this game was 3rd straight loss)
TX Tech 98-54 10032
Kansas 55-72 12054

This gives me an average of 10,681 from the box scores on 12thman.com, the 10,343 I put in OP was from an NCAA attendance site - not sure why there is a discrepancy.

We were robbed of 13K vs Texas this year with the students being on break.

Wish we didn't have the two 11:00 am kickoffs though.....especially the UT game.

I booked the Bastrop resort last night for that Friday night February 14th. Valentines Day!

My wife and I will be at Reed bright and early for the Arkansas 11am tip.

On the other hand it allows for people to come in for day trips.

3 midweek and 2 Saturday games remain. If you plug in OU attendance (9379) for the 3 midweeks and LSU attendance (12812) for the 2 weekend games, we'd finish at 10,045 for second best all time.

I would imagine the midweek against Auburn will be a sellout and hope MSST is still ranked to draw a crowd as well. Fingers crossed - either way 2nd highest is pretty damn good!

Interesting how things have changed:

ranked #13 and playing OU at home and attendance is only 9,379

2008 ranked #23 and playing OU at home and attendance was 13,158

OU 52 - #23 Texas A&M 60
February 2, 2008 at College Station - Atttendance 13,158

Looks like that was a Saturday...if we played them at home this weekend we'd push 13k

I think a little bit of the air was taken out of the fan base from our previous game this year…

I agree with both posts above. I think the way in which we lost (squandering a 22 point lead) our previous game had a lot to do with it.

However, in 2008 total enrollment was 48,039 and Fall of 2024 it was 78,987. I know these numbers include more than just the College Station campus. Just seems like a lot of empty seats for a top 13 team against a marquee opponent (even if it was a weekday).

College hoops attendance for weeknight games are always going to draw significantly less than comparable weekend games.

I'd also bet our season ticket/mini-plan base in 2008 after our most successful year ever was significantly higher.

Tuesday night 8 pm games also go up against Breakaway which is largely attended by our student body. I was told by a student this past Tuesday that it was at Rudder and Sadie Robertson was speaking. They thought that would draw away from student attendance.

Have to admit I am surprised by Arkansas attendance, I assumed it would be 12,500+

Average 10,095 through Auburn - final 2025 update

Final 2025 update, second time over 10K in average attendance and second best overall.

Given we were ranked wire to wire, I think the second time ever and first since last BCG year, I guess I thought we might set a new attendance record. But a good showing for A&M overall, attendance-wise.

I guess I want to update this thread again this year, for the first year of Buckyball. I may keep at this thread until we break our all time average attendance record.

Great attendance last year, helped by the following: 1) A lot of returning players the fans knew and liked 2) Nationally ranked team 3) Fewer home games vs scrubs due to tournaments and overall strong non-con schedule. It was the second highest average attendance in program history.

This year we have 2 more home games, and they are lowly non-con opponents so this will hurt our average compared to last year. Perhaps I should break out average non con and average conference attendance.

The only hope we have for this year is that we catch fire and the style of play starts bringing in some more people and we post some absolutely huge numbers on the back end. Having Texas and Kentucky at the end will help.
