Snake and Jake's. There's a name I haven't thought about in a while. Took my brother there once and when it saw it, he said "we're going in there?!?!"

Yea that place is a cool joint. Always try stop in for a few beers when in Nola. Nola has a lot of cool little dives. The ones I listed are all the ones I've been too. I'm sure there's more that I haven't been to yet.

Some of my favorite places to eat:

Mais Arepa (Colombian food)
Saba
La Petite Grocery
Bearcat (breakfast/brunch)
Saffron (Indian food)
St. James Cheese Co. (great sandwiches/salads)
Zee's Pizza
Shaya

I've heard good things about several of the other recommendations in previous posts but I will say I wasn't impressed with Cochon at all, since thats been mentioned more than once.

And like others have said, the WWII Museum is super cool if you have several hours to kill.

I just want good food. Maybe good music. And some nice things to do. My wife now wants to go to the ww2 museum with me so I'll need more activities as that was going to be one day….and she has to pick a day of boring stuff to skip!

So many good suggestions we have been making a list and googling and narrowing things down. Texags always delivers on recommendations

The butternut squash and shrimp bisque at brigsten's is still one of the best soups I've ever had.

And when I moved back to Texas, my wife called and they were kind enough to give us the recipe. Good people.

Parkway is great - also really close to Bayou beer garden and wrong iron - both great spots to have a drink, especially now that we're not in the middle of summer

A few I've yet to see mentioned and most of these aren't cajun/creole

Port of Call - steak/burger joint famous for burgers. Don't get a steak. Life changing burger. If you like tropical dirnks the Monsoon is good but huge and strong. Windjammer is the smaller version.

Johnny Sanchez - a mexican collaboration between Aaron Sanchez and John Besh. Looks like Besh is no longer associated due to his metoo type scandal several years ago.

Mahoney's Po-Boys - the original is on Magazine St and is fun - typical Nola restaurant in an old house. There is a French Q location where we normally eat though. They have a lot of non-seafood options. Their roast beef po-boy, dressed, is probably my favorite in the city.

If for some reason you find yourself on the west bank, Cafe 615 (Home of Da Wabbit) is great. Da Wabbit is just a salisbury type hamburger steak with brown mushroom gravy but it is absolutely so freaking good that you can't believe such a classic could be so much better than everywhere else.

Latitude 29 - tiki bar and restaurant so your typical asian fusion, hawaiian, etc. Even if you only get fries and pimento cheese rangoon as apps along with some drinks - it is awesome.

Manolito - super tiny cuban drink place that has the best cuban sandwich on the planet.

Staff - take out the trash.

If ya like a great muffaletta I always grab one to-go at Central Grocery while in the Quarter.

Edit: I hadn't been back in a couple years and realized they're moving. This URL has a list where ya can find one if interested:

I've only been to Manolito a couple of times so can't speak to much of the drink menu (1 drink per visit). Last visit I had the Papa Doble which was good. Even with grapefruit as one of the ingrediens it wasn't overly sour. It will be a regular spot moving forward as long as we can get there when they open and don't have to wait since there are so few tables.

Latitude's online menu is always a lot smaller than what they'll hand you. If you aren't sure whether or not you've ever had a "real" Mai-Tai then you probably haven't so I'd start with it. I've always been a fan of the TNT Swizzle. It has 151 per the menu but you wouldn't know it.

For food we're often there when they first open or late at night, so either way just munching. Fries are great as-is the pimento cheese rangoon (pimento cheese in fried wanton wrapper). One night on a whim we split a burger and it was absolutely killer. I've noticed that sometimes the burger on the menu is different, but usually it the ingredients are similar to a big-mac. No idea of the online menu is accurate but if so that's what they're serving currently. The most recent yelp photos of menus though are different so YMMV.

You can buy their olive salad at the Kroger and Market St groceries in DFW! It's fantastic and I'll sometimes just grab a spoon and eat a bit straight from the jar

WWII Museum rocks. It's a full day, if not two day, experience. Amazing!

Harrah's Casino, if that's of interest.

Don't let anyone tell you where you got your shoes, in fact, don't talk to anyone that comes up to you on the street.

"On your feet. Now gimme my money."

And don't let them spell your name without being able to see it on your DL. "Y O U R N A M E. Now gimme my money"

Yep, I've seen it in Houston as well. So good. Those sandwiches saved my ass on multiple occasions while walking around day drinking in NOLA. Had to skip the WWII Museum last trip to NOLA but will be top priority next time.

Shaya.

How good is Shaya. We just got invited to a corporate party for a company she consults with. They usually do one get together for their remote employees at the conference. They will of course spend lavishly on the food and drinks. Downside is it's with mainly people we don't know and she's an introvert so it will be painful.

Shaya is incredible - everything there is well done. Great cocktails and service, but the food is unreal. Absolutely the best hummus I've ever had. If you can, order the hummus with the fried chicken and the date pesto green sauce, and save room for food as the pita breads are superb.

My brother just opened his own place right across from Emeril's. Maria's Oyster & Wine Bar! It's amazing! He's opening a French Bistro, Le Moyne, that will share the same kitchen. Le Moyne is scheduled to open around 4/1. I ate at Maria's the last two days and tried just about everything on the menu from the raw bar on down!

Everything was absolutely amazing. Oysters were super fresh, the Oxtail Meat Pie, Tuna Steak Au Poive and Curried Pork Cheeks were 10/10. Yes, my brother is an owner and chef here but I'd not feel any different about the food were that not the case. Sadly I didn't take any plate pics before we devoured everything but there's good pics on their IG page!
