I haven't opened it yet. Already had plans (and ingredients) to make blackberry bourbon smash(es) tonight so I stayed the course.

I was drinking Heaven Hill bottled in bond last night and then had a glass of Blanton's. The Blanton's tasted completely different than I have ever realized, and I felt I could pick out more of the flavors since I had just drank the Heaven Hill that has a different flavor profile. Is that a common sensation? I almost didn't like the Blanton's drinking it right after the other one. Too sweet

It is very common, hence the reason for cleansing you palate during taste tests. I can definitely see a BT product being too sweet after drinking a Heaven Hill product. Drink it in the opposite direction and you'll probably get some bitterness from the HH profile.

Very common. I love finding pours where drinking one thing makes another thing taste better. One of my favorites is drinking W12 after something high proof. Turns W12 into a cherry bomb.

Anyone else tried the new Barrell Bourbon Cigar Blend release? I snagged the last one at my local shop yesterday and I think it's a banger. Some notes are down the traditional cigar blend path (oak, tobacco, leather, baking spice), but the Madeira and Rum finished part of the batch brings interesting sweetness to the expression. It's probably my favorite expression Barrell has ever released, at least that I have tried. If you see it on the shelf, grab one!

I've been a fan of every cigar blend I've tried. I need to try to find one of theirs.

I tried it the other night and was very underwhelmed. Was a sample given from a friend and my initial thought was I was glad I didn't purchase a bottle. There was just a note to it that did not hit for me.

Now having said that, it was at the end of a long night of tasting a lot of things, so a revisit is definitely needed, as I typically like cigar blends, and some of Barrell's other products.

Is the old forester 1924 worth the $107 price tag? Never seen it on the shelf.

The most recent batch is very good IMO

I loved batch 1, but didn't love batch 2. I'm curious about batch 3.

Not sure which batch I had about 8 months ago, but it wasn't memorable.

That's about as good of MSRP you'll find. It hovers around $110-120 for MSRP. So that's maybe as good as it gets if you're interested.

I just saw that one of my favorite less expensive bourbons, 1792 Small Batch, has lower prices in the DFW market now:

Total Wine @ $24.99 (750ml) and $41.99 (1.75L)
Spec's $25.25 / $23.99 CASH or DEBIT (750ml) and $43.86 / $41.67 CASH or DEBIT (1.75L)

That is a very good bourbon for that price point.

(These were about $28.99 (750ml) and $51.99 (1.75L) in 2025).

Anyone tried the Knob Creek Distiller's batch 01? Just picked it up, supposed to be sweet, vanilla and caramel.

Yeah it is a phenomenal bottle for $40. Excited to see what other unique blends they can do with the same mash bill.

100% Agree. It's a tweener of KC9-KC12 with BT level of sweetness. Very much enjoy it! Def worth the pickup if you come across.
