Any thoughts:

Crib notes: Senior Pentagon officials are preparing a plan to downgrade several of the U.S. military's major headquarters and shift the balance of power among its top generals, in a major consolidation sought by Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth...It would reduce in prominence the headquarters of U.S. Central Command, U.S. European Command and U.S. Africa Command by placing them under the control of a new organization known as U.S. International Command, according to five people familiar with the matter...The plan also calls for realigning U.S. Southern Command and U.S. Northern Command, which oversee military operations throughout the Western Hemisphere, under a new headquarters to be known as U.S. Americas Command, or Americom...
Those familiar with the plan said it aligns with the Trump administration's national security strategy, released this month, which declares that the "days of the United States propping up the entire world order like Atlas are over."

I suspect that fundamentally not much will change. It sounds like just another layer of bureaucracy by placing the COCOMs under a new command. They'll still keep doing what they're doing, but now report to a new commander overseeing multiple COCOMs instead of directly to SECDEF - at least if I understand it correctly.

However, might be different for the new Americas command that will perhaps merge North and South COM? Very large area for a COCOM, but obviously not much is happening in most of NORTHCOM.

Not sure why they felt the need to do this, but certainly curious if anyone else knows more. This is definitely outside my wheelhouse anyways.

I know the Army is shaking up it's respective Component Commands to the Combatant Commands (kinda like when Army Europe and Africa combined...again) and also some of the other 4 star Army commands, so reductions in general officers and all the huge staffs and getting them back down to the deployable Divisions and BCTs where they are needed frankly
