Good lord, who listens to a 5 hour podcast?

Charlie didn't get much USO. He was dug in too deep or moving too fast. His idea of great R&R was cold rice and a little rat meat. He had only two ways home: death, or victory.

Commuting to work I can easily burn through several audio books a month, this is similar.

I understand that some do listen. But it seems lazy of the podcasters to ramble on for 300 minutes.

Doesn't have to be a 30 second sound bite, but edit to the important parts, for Pete's sake

Man, I'm sorry but this is a bad take. Some of these guys have incredible stories to tell. I could listen to days of their interviews. Sean Ryan had an Iwo Jima flame thrower operator on his show about a year ago. Incredible stuff. Jocko has 3 1/2 hour interview with Norm Hooten from Black Hawk Down. It's not the podcasters rambling for the most part, it's the stories being told.

I do not agree... honestly, it sounds like you're the lazy one here - judging the format before listening to it. You'd know it's not the podcast host doing the majority of the talking.

Quite the opposite. It's easy to dump tons of words on a page or in a podcast. It takes skill and effort to separate the wheat from the chaff, and give your audience the respect of not wasting their time.

To misquote Mark Twain, "I didn't have time to write you a short letter, so I wrote you a long one."

Or an accurate quote of Woodrow Wilson:

According to an anecdote published in 1918 Woodrow Wilson was asked about the amount of time he spent preparing speeches, and his response was illuminating:

"That depends on the length of the speech," answered the President. "If it is a ten-minute speech it takes me all of two weeks to prepare it; if it is a half-hour speech it takes me a week; if I can talk as long as I want to it requires no preparation at all. I am ready now."

Win all due respect, your doubling down on your ignorance to what some of these podcasts entail. I highly encourage you to give some e a listen. Do I listen to every guest on The Sean Ryan show? Nope. But if see the guest is a Son Tay Raider, or Delta Operator in Mogadishu, or running a Flame Thrower on Iwo Jima, I'm gonna *********listen to that. You aren't hearing the podcast host talk about their experiences, your hearing a man describe his experiences that shaped what our military is today. I highly encourage you to give Sean Ryan, or Jocko Willink's podcasts a gander. Some terrific stuff in some episodes.

Doesn't sound respectful.

More power to you if you have 5 hours to listen to something that interests you.

But 99% of consumers are going to see it's 5 hours long, and never click on it.

Mh last comments on this will be this:
I apologize if you don't know how podcasts work , but Sean Ryan's podcast is a top 10 or top 15 podcast. People aren't deterred by the lengths of the episodes. It might take me 3 or 4 days to get through an episode as I only listen driving 40 minutes to and from work or mowing the yard, but you really swung and missed at your take on this. Again, give it a listen. Check his lists of guests and find one that interests you and give it a shot. I'd be surprised if you don't like it. Again, I don't listen to every guest, but I see who is on his new episode and read a brief synopsis and if it's gonna float my boat I'll listen. I've yet to be disappointed. These guys are interviewing some of America's top figures and some top tier war fighters, I dont know how you couldn't be intrigued at that.

Ignorance is bliss for you?

And no... his target audience isn't going to skip it. Long form podcasts are definitely a thing - check out Dan Carlin's Hardcore History.

TikTok might better fit your attention span.

Apparently no one is allowed to have a different opinion? And if they do, they are to be insulted, not merely disagreed with?

Interesting take.

At varying times in your replies you implied or stated that Sean Ryan's lazy, that he pads his pods with fluff, and that he wastes the time of people who consume his content. Each of those more or less indict or impugn both him & his base.

If you've never watched his interviews and seen how he he can draw out and Roy-Firestone some of the toughest, hardest warriors our country's ever sculpted, I don't know what to suggest except maybe give him a listen.

And no, you don't need to sit for four, five or six hours unless you want to get the whole segment at once.

I have no dog in the fight but I find it hilarious that the millennial posters are standing up for a long form podcast while the boomer is griping that it's too long!

To quote the great Michael Scott "well, well, well, how the turntables…"
