a) Not far of a walk; nice temps this weekend. Watch out - birds like the trees downtown at night.

b) Garcia's on Frederickburg Rd. A crowd and wait but worth it.

b) Blanco Cafe on Blanco. Same as above. Uber to these as its a combo of street and limited lot parking

Taking my wife to SA this weekend for a quick holiday getaway. Been awhile since we've been downtown and trying to put an itinerary together. Wanted to run this by the experts.

Never been to the Tower of the Americas and thought about trying to be up there for sunset on Saturday to grab a drink. Want to eat at Bohanan's either before or after. We're staying at the Menger. Anything else to do this time of year on the riverwalk? Thought about a carriage ride to see the lights and probably just bar hopping along the Riverwalk.

Instead of a carriage ride, take a barge cruise on the river. It is beautiful with all the Christmas lights. I am not a big fan of the Tower but it is probably OK this time of year. During the summer it is hot as hell in there eating.

This team of year you can walk from the Tower to Bohanon's. Depends on your wife's footwear.

In the bottom of the Hilton, if still there, go to Dirty Nellie's. It is an old and small piano bar singing Irish and Texas songs. I have always enjoyed it.

We ate down on the river last week and, like always, we said "We should come down here more often." Especially at Christmas, it is really pretty.

Durty Nelly's is still there.

Bohanan's is still a great place for drinks and dinner.

I would just walk to the Tower and use the Riverwalk as a route to and from.

As suggested, I would take a river barge instead of a carriage but that's me. Some people really do love the horses.

The drinks at Dean's at the Kimpton are excellent, the food very skippable. There's a small detached bar at the north end of the property that is worth a stop. It's associated with Dean's but I can't remember the name off the top of my head.

Bohanans was already booked for Saturday as was Brenners. I got a reservation at Ruth's Chris but if anyone has any suggestions for better food/atmosphere within walking distance of the River Walk, I'm all ears.

Thanks all for the suggestions and replies. I think a stop at Dirty Nellies sounds like a good time. The river barge was also on the agenda. Main reason I chose SA was my wife has never seen the Christmas lights on the River Walk and from what I can remember it's a pretty cool experience. Weather looks like it should be pretty good as well.

Biga, Battalion, Maverick, Silo Prime probably all better if you want to avoid a national chain like Ruths.

Boudro's is supposed to be really good, right? Don't think I've ever been.

Biga on the Banks is nice, too.

Domingo was excellent the one time I tried it. Not sure if that's a menu you're looking for though.
