So I have five hardwired detectors in my house that are 17 years old. They can be a real pain, especially during winter when the furnace runs. It seems like just hot air blowing on them will make them chirp, and it's worse when the batteries are not new. I feel like I'm constantly replacing 9volts back-up batteries even though the detectors are powered.
Have these things gotten better over the years? Will new replacements eliminate the problem?
