How long do you want to ignore this user?
I have two outdoor fans that are identical and close in proximity to each other on our solid roof patio:

  • They are on the same switch and remote control.
  • They both turn on and off with the switch.
  • They both turn on and off with the remote.
  • They both have a light that turns on and off with the remote.
  • Fan 1 will change speeds with the remote
  • Fan 2 will not change speeds with the remote and has gotten slower and slower over the past 6 months.
I cannot remember if Fan 2 ever responded to the speed buttons on the remote. I think it did but it's been hanging for a couple of years now and I don't bother changing the speed often. I only started trying because I noticed that Fan 2 was slow and thought maybe it had gotten out of sync some how. Basically now though Fan 2 barely turns.

How do I troubleshoot what is going on with Fan 2 or do I just accept that it is dead?

Mine somehow got a wasp or dirt dobber nest inside. Wouldn't turn AT ALL untill i forced it and now it is hard to turn and very crunchy sounding.

Is an outdoor rated fan, but apparently not as sealed as I thought it would be.

Sounds like Fan 2's capacitor is on its way out. That's a common issue with slowing speeds and poor response. I had a Harbor Breeze fan do the same thing, and swapping the capacitor fixed it for under $15. If you're handy, it's worth trying before declaring it dead.

Thanks all! Will be opening it up this weekend. I appreciate it.
