If it's been since the '90s, a lot has changed. Composite decking is a big upgrade from old-school wood, with no rot, splinters, or constant staining, and it holds up really well to weather. Wood is still cheaper upfront, but the maintenance adds up fast.

We went composite on a recent project (our place was built by KB Home) and it's been basically maintenance-free. Costs more at first, but if you want something that lasts and stays looking good, composite is definitely worth considering.
