Building a house and putting in a space for a simulator.

Any rec's on a good kit? Looking more for the mat, screen, frame, projector.

Still TBD on the tech / actual sim to get. Thanks!

Indoor golf outlet had some good packages on their Black Friday sale. I imagine you can get some good deals before Christmas.

I put one in my garage if you have any questions. I did a build in so no frame just screen and padding. I can send you pictures if you want ideas.

This is key.

Square is a great unit for an indoor budget build. Works great with TP5 Pix balls. Honestly, the only reason to upgrade to anything above that is if you have the budget to get one that reads any golf ball and club speed (not just angle of approach, ball speed, etc).

I did the R50 for space issues as well as annual fees etc.

I have the Uneekor eye mini lite and it's fantastic. Captures far more data than the square and much cheaper than the R50 when it's on sale. Right now they are still running their Black Friday sale

Got this last year. Absolutely clutch having measured club data instead of algorithmic

I debated between the Uneekor amd the R50. I went R50 so I didn't need a gaming computer would could potentially save someone a few thousand. If you want to run GSPro on the R50, you do need a gaming computer but some significant savings on subscription costs as well.

Budget is going to determine this.

There's $100K simulator set ups and there's $2,300 set ups like our budget sim in the garage and million options in between.

Don't forget about all the ancillary items.

Mininsplit
Protective case
Random golf decorations
New paint job
Golf club holder
Pinlight
LED lighting on outside

The longer you have it the more you upgrade

Depending on your time frame I would wait to get the launch monitor, quite a few new lines coming out that should shake up the two giants and were impressive for the supposed price points. For my money overhead always better for built in so you can have righty/lefty, a never moving center aim point and much larger hitting areas. If you're doing a built in it's way better to spend your money on a very high quality screen than some of the "premium" screens that come in the kits. I've now had three build outs from 5k-125k, if you care about being in 4k or 8k then the screen, projector and processing unit are going to be big expenses; you can get 90% of what a 100k sim is for much much less. Get appropriate underflooring for your mat, or get ready to get hurt. I'm very brand agnostic and have rotated through essentially all of the brands for all of the components so sorry for no specific products, you can find good stuff a lot of different ways.

Should be some shakeup of the software soon as well, after Greg McDonald left GSPro to start up an Unreal Engine based competitor there seems to be a lot of movement on that front.

I will say on the launch monitor, if you have even an inkling that you are going to want strike location and face to path data that is actually measured and not calculated its probably worth it to buy once cry once.

So many variables -- you will get better feedback if you expand on budget, space, lefty/righty needs and whether you want a portable device that can go outside to the range or a fixed setup in your house.

I spent 6 months researching and completed our sim in a medium-to-small media room in March. I went with the ProTee VX which punches way above its weight class for what you get and is a strong recommendation if you want an overhead unit. No club stickers, no special balls, great software, high accuracy, a large hitting area, swing camera integration and constant development of new features from the company. There are a few things I would put on the "con" side but around $6K for what you get that compares very favorably with Uneekor and Foresight units that are north of $10K.

Lots of good YouTube channels dedicated to home golf sims -- that's where you will learn the most. It was the most fun project I have ever done and we use it constantly.

I can't imagine not having GSPro with any simulator setup. I've tried a few and GSPro is hands down the most important part of my sim. I'm using a 1080p projector and a $550 gaming rig I built myself. An older 3060 GPU is all you need at that resolution.

Any details on your flooring/putting green you can share? I think that's my next upgrade.

Here's mine currently. Very pleased with it, and feel like we'll make some additions as we go.

Edit for specs:

Enclosure: 8.2x11.9 GolfBays
Launch monitor: Garmin R50
Projector: BenQ TH671ST
Mat: SigPro Softy

I also have the same sig pro softy. I wanted a flush / drop in setup so we pulled out the carpet and pad.

You basically need to build up 2 & 1/2" to 2 & 5/8" for it to be flush with the SPS.

So starting from the wood subfloor we have 1" pink foamular insulation board as the first layer which is sold in 4 ft x 8 ft pieces. Next layer is the 1" EVA foam jigsaw mats. And finally the turf is Money Putt by GrassTex which is great.

So we built those layers up and then cut in the space for the Sigg pro softy and dropped it in. The foam boards were used to provide a solid but easy to cut base layer but you could do a 2 inch foam base as well and I think it would work out just as good.

If you happen to be in the North Texas area and decide to proceed, I actually have an entire box of the EVA foam tiles that were just surplus.

I bought the turf from Golf Sim Depot as they were offering the best price delivered. The foam tiles just came from Amazon and the pink board from Home Depot.

Carls Place and Indoor Golf Shop are two of the best and both have great packages well within your budget. You certainly don't need to spend 30K for a great setup, especially if you're not concerned with flooring / putting. The type of LM you want kind of sets the stage for everything else.

With that budget I'd 100% go with a gaming PC, 4k projector, and GSPro with whatever monitor you choose.

Thanks! What is the advantage of the gaming PC? Graphics? Not sure that I need that either.

You need something with a graphics card large enough to run GS Pro. The GSPro website will give you the specs needed but a basic gaming computer can run it, but if you have 4K you might need a little better one.

I need one in order to take the graphics and show it on a 9x9 screen properly.

McKinney Ag, I am currently using a 1x4 hitting strip, do you find the hitting mat works better than the strip?
I am thinking of taking the 1x4 cut out and turning it into a 5x7 mat. I am using the Swingturf which is already 1 5/8" and fits my current build up which is 2 layers of 5/8" foam mats and the Money Putt turf which is 3/8".

You need some type of simulation software to run your sim. There's E6, GSPro, TGC 2019, Awesome Golf, etc. Some monitor companies have their own in house software like Refine on Uneekor or HomeTee on Garmin. These are generally trash, especially if you really want a full simulator and not just practicing at home. GSPro is the best with 1,000s of real, free courses. It's a $250 a year subscription but easily worth twice that. It has a ton of built in practice and range options as well.

Here's the current list of free GSPro courses

I'm in the middle of my build. Send me a DM. Happy to discuss my research.

Go watch Pixelgolf on YouTube. There's a few others I'd recommend. In the car going to the Miami game. Can't type more right now

Sorry I forgot to respond. Honestly my only point of reference is the 4x7 mat with the hitting strip insert.

And since I dropped mine into the stack I built up, it provides even more stability. My original plan was to just set the sig pro softy on top of the carpet in my former media room but didn't want it moving around on me.

Not sure if that answered your question.

My hitting mat is on top of my carpet and I had to put carpet tape on the bottom of it to hold it in place.

I have a 1 1/4" build up with a 10x10 turf. I then cut out a 1x4 section for the hitting strip.

I am thinking of going to a 5x4 hitting mat cut in instead of a 1x4. Not sure if that would be better or not.

I love the stability my 4 x 7 mat provides and that I can just swap out the hitting strip when it's time. But not sure what your motivation for considering that change is?

I love mine and it's definitely among the most popular / most recommended. Also a huge draw for me that it matches the money putt turf so well. Their HQ is about 8 miles from me in Celina and I've been able to visit and talk to them a few times…great company.

Fiberbuilt is another really good product, as well as the GungHo Golf stuff (Austin based).
TXAGGIES

I was hoping to find a 4x4 which wouldn't require an additional hitting strip. I was hoping for a larger hitting area and when it gets wore out, I could just give it a quarter turn and be good again.

I have the fiberbuilt grass 7x4 and I love it. Has a heavy rubber base and doesn't move. It is a bit forgiving on chunked hits but it's also extremely easy on my wrists and joints.
