I've been watching the FPI most of the year this year and I'm convinced that whoever developed it was a liberal arts major from Big Mike's School of Box Delivery.

And you lost to mid tier Arizona State. It's a game with a lot of endogenous and exogenous variables at play. I just report the news. I don't write it.

Just reporting the News, Tech ranked #8, A&M at #3 in the CFP rankings, Utah out of the top 12 at #13.......

Then Utah is overachieving, because they sit at #17 and #19 in other polls.

The Utes need:

UT and OU to lose another game (probable)
and
BYU to win out (50%?)
or
Notre Dame to lose another game - maybe Pitt?
or
Oregon to drop another game (@Iowa, USC, @Washington)

I hope the Utes get in. I think they would seriously challenge any team they would face in the CFP, and I hope Tech doesn't have to play them again. But I don't think it's going to happen, and I think the best chance the Utes have is for BYU to win out because I think the committee would happily put Utah in if Tech drops out, but that they will invent whatever excuse they have to in order to prevent three Big 12 teams from making the CFP.
