Tech just spent the most in NIL, has a top 10 team with a solid chance to make the CFP, and he already has 3 of the top 5 star commits in the next 2 draft classes…..

Cody Campbell and John Sellers have deep pockets, but are astute entrepreneurs. What if these two fellows realize bankrolling Tech to compete against commuter schools and Mormons isn't worth it?

Joey won't leave for awhile. Tech probably has him in a contract that penalizes him for thinking about it.

It's all about money and opportunity.

tech is about the opportunity for a handful of 17 year old boys to make more money than their coaches.

I have some tech friends that burned my phone up the day Kingsbury left TAMU to become head coach. They were absolutely giddy like little kids given a bag of candy about telling me about it.
Said comments to me like " Hold on to your butt Aggie we just got our swagger back!" ….and "Get ready for tech to dominate college recruiting and football."
Bottom line is tech is the third place horse in the horse race that never could beat the two horses in front of him.. …and now that those two horses moved on to race in the Kentucky Derby he might finally be able to win a grass track quarter mile race against two year old fillies. .

The thing that's changed from your cool little story is Tech now has the facilities, donor backing, and the athlete talent that brings to compete with anyone…..

It's a new world with NIL and Tech is showing the old guard how it should be done…..

Tech is doing great right now. They are almost authoring "the new landscape" of college football.
Eventually things will shake out and Tech will have taken a step up from where they were before. and will be in a better position.

But also when the smoke clears, Tech will still be in Lubbock and at a disadvantage relative to more desirable locations and schools with better networking opportunities, etc...
Right now they're cruising but probably paying a 20% premium over the traditional power schools, to do it. But it's definitely an entertaining and worthwhile gambit.

We had a similar contract with Jimbo except he got a bonus for thinking about leaving, or staying, or fumbling around with a 40-page play-sheet, or for hiring the worst OL coach in football, or sheeting the bed vs. App State, or getting QB's killed on the regular, or being insufferable during interviews...

I don't think Joey leaves either. I think the prevailing thought with tech is that it is a bit of a fluke.

That may be wrong and/or unfair, but that's the thinking among SOME ADs. Whether the crash happens this year or next, they think this is a dot-com runup.

There is a huge disconnect between what Tech is spending and their recruiting rankings. Kids quite literally can't be paid enough to go there.

I wouldn't take much, if any, stock in the comment if I were you. It is, after all, an anon message on a message board. However, I believe it to be true based on several factors that you are more than free to ignore or think I'm fabricating. But do you think I have a track record for that kind of stuff? Do you honestly think that I'm making an obscure comment on something about a school I literally care nothing about just to bolster street cred, or whatever you want to call it?

(I'm actually FAR more connected in tech circles, despite not really caring as it just worked out that way, than I am in A&M -- or ever have been -- but that's a different issue. I think tech is very satisfied for now, and as I said, I don't think he leaves whether I'm right about the other stuff or not. So enjoy!).

Y'all had a really good stretch there under Mike Leach. Took it to us on the regular. Really hated losing to y'all. Dark times in the 2000's for us. Only started coming out of it in the 2010's.

I don't know any Aggie that thinks we've been elite. I think you've mistaken our belief that we're better than Tech as a claim of elite status... which it clearly isn't.

In our lifetime, you haven't been better than us as witnessed by our head to head record in the Big XII ! Aggie delusion is real. Y'all fielded a team 50 years before we did, so overall record is of course going to be skewed.
