Oklahoma State would make the most sense…so many similarities, we call them Xerox U because they have copied so many of our traditions. Similar institutions is so many ways.

But the brain trust that is the new Big12 decided not to let that happen. It should have been given protected rivalry status like they did with a few others, ensuring we would play each other each year, but no. We were given no protected rivalry.

So dumb and short-sighted by the Big12. You absolutely must have rivalries in a conference. It generates interest, media buzz, and $$$.

Baylor would have been choice 1B. This year marked the end of the longest streak of consecutive years playing each other…the longest streak for either team for any opponent. And the Big12 ended it. So damn dumb. Just absolutely absurdly dumb.

at this point our biggest rival is whatever else it is that we need to do to get invited to the B1G.

There's nothing about the Big 12 that I like as far as football is concerned. Basketball? Yeah it is a monster conference. Football? It's a placeholder.

Tech's biggest hurdle with the B1G is their haughty hangup over academic ratings and status. Most schools in that conference are AAU and in the Top 100. This is not a jab at Tech, but more of an understanding of their "prestige factor" and mystique. Besides, the girls at Tech are far too good looking for the Midwest.

Tech has started the AAU process.

Problem with attaining AAU status is it's not solely about reaching the federal research dollar threshold. An institution has to be sponsored by a member institution and voted in.

It's like joining a prestigious country club. Just because you have the money doesn't necessarily mean you will get the membership.

UT and ATM will never sponsor our membership and I suspect they will block it if we did somehow manage to get another AAU member to sponsor us.

A&M might not sponsor Tech, but I doubt we'd purposely block you, either. Tech is less of a threat to us than they are to the school in Austin. Say what you will about PUF and what not, their disproportional cut has the most to suffer if it's reduced. An ascending Tech sways political lobby, and they'd have more to lose. Ask us how we know about their sabotage efforts….

A&M blocked our vet school for decades. We finally had enough political influence to push it through but A&M and Sharp kept fighting it even after the vote.

Texas tceh definitely hates a quality education

It's crazy to me how tech thinks having a vet school gives them any credibility.

And Tech wasn't an inhibitor of a law school at A&M? If you read timelines, Tech's approval for a vet school lines up with A&M's purchase of Wesleyan's law school in Fort Worth. West Texas desperately needed rural vets, and if the A&M System couldn't prop West Texas A&M, then Tech was the obvious choice. In the end, both schools eventually got what they wanted.

And the Aggie law school is burying tech's.

Nebraska's not exactly an academic powerhouse.

I don't care about tech. They have the identity of every other 5th or 6th best school in any state. Unfortunately for them they're in west Texas and will always be an outcast

Nebraska's not exactly an academic powerhouse.

Nebraska has a higher academic rating than Tech, and they also have proximity and football legacy. Those are insurmountable advantages.

Tech has a toe-hold in Texas that the B1G does not currently have, nor does Nebraska. j/s
