The Socioeconomic Theory of Finance is probably the next read you need to do. You have a mindset problem. Have to re-wire to be successful at trading.

Can you post a couple of your trades where this has happened? I'd like to help you with this.

Really appreciate it, there are too many to list and too many sources of info that I read.

I made good money on AMD last year, without it I would have had a negative year (I even had a terrible entry and way over sized, thankfully). I damn near top ticked my sell on a bulk of the shares. I patiently waited around for it to pull back. Added a bit as it continued to drop. Finally got my full amount willing to put on one position added, avg about 220. Since I've been bagholding so many **** stocks lately and seeing them crater double digit percents, I used a stop loss, something I rarely do…set it at 200. On 1/12 it hit 199.80. Position liquidated. Instantly recovered, bumped its head on 240 today, a day everything was blood red.

Same story and timing with intc.

I put in a sell order on upst to get out at b/e around 51, missed it by a nickel, down ~15% since then.

MU has been on my list, but I have lots of exposure to chips/semis/tech…I didn't buy it. It hasn't even thought about retreating.

I truly think I'm done. I've read for thousands of hours over the years, countless sites and books and even paid services (including OAs), everything literally goes oppo the second I act on it. Some people just don't have the touch.

In addition to the other good feedback, I'll chime in that there's nothing wrong with a set and forget allocation of broad ETFs. You can do this now, and then take a small part of your portfolio to actively manage when you're ready again. It's not an all or nothing proposition, for sure.

So are we starting off with being down from residual from yesterday and then we turn green and close up?

thoughts on NFLX, i was looking at the low 80s for a buy but I think the market got more to give before I buy.

BE up 77% YTD and at all time highs. I sold a portion at $130 and have been waiting for a pull back since then. Just keeps climbing though.

I'm in accumulation mode. Bought some the other day and will keep adding more as it drops. It's a long term hold for me though.

$11 calls bought last week. Went underwater and then roared from the dead yesterday. Closed today.

WTTR - Sell set at $15.50. Might move it higher depending on the strength of the rise.

For edification purposes, are you using a limit sell of $15.50 when you do something like this? Or is it just a target that you're tracking without actually putting in an order?

AMD approaching my first target for taking profits. (249.95)

I place a limit sell in case I'm not around when it hits. But every time I check in I will adjust the count for the current pattern. If target can reliably project higher I'll move it up and post when I do.

Thanks for the reply. Are you able to put a limit sell order in while maintaining your stop order? I've been unable to do that on Schwab before because it says I'm selling shares I don't have (i.e. my shares are already subject to my stop). Not sure on the workaround.

FYI - i'm not sure if anyone knew this or has posted about it before, but SLV and GLD are treated as "collectibles" and not commodities or stocks. Which means capital gains are taxed at 28%.

OCO bracket. Once cancels other. Can have both on at the same time. Would research how to do it with your broker.

I bought 480 shares @11.78 the other day when you recommended! Thanks! I also can't set a sell limit because of my Stop. (Schwab). I'll just watch and move my stop up if/as the price continues to rise.

Do you use thinkorswim?

Simply right click your position on the "Monitor" tab --> create closing order --> with OCO bracket. Put in target and stop.

Your guess is as good as mine, but there are a handful of AI related stocks that arent worth nickle/dime vs riding.

Definitely moving this way and have picked out a number of ETFs that are a little more focused than the broad ETFs (along with a lion's share of the money being averaged into SPY and QQQ).

Only reason I took some profit here is that I'm rotating it into other underperforming stocks like ORCL and AVGO.

Over the past 30-45 days I guess I am tired of writing calls only to see me leave a ton on the table (even though premiums are very nice)

I'm only up 109.5% since 2023. What a garbage stock.

If you sell now, what price are you looking to get back in at? If you are?

Pretty decent call buying on SMCI. Above 33, and it can get some stretch.

Chicago exchange has a lot of free lessons to introduce you how things work.

https://www.cmegroup.com/education/courses.html

I spent some time in there when I first discovered the thread. I would also recommend going to page 1 and reading through the first 20-30 pages . There was a lot of charting back then and some great reference materials as well.

Dan Shapiro's PS60 is what I and several others here are a part of or have been in the past.
