We went to Fredericksburg 12/4 - 12/8 to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We've been several times previously but this was the best visit.
Thursday, we drove down from Livingston with a customary stop at Buc-ee's in Bastrop for a BBQ sandwich. That night we dined at Otto's German Bistro and had the Duck Schnitzel. It was great!
Friday we drove 1 1/2 hours to Flat Creek Estate Vineyard (east of Marble Falls) for their Pizza and Pours. Gourmet pizza prepared by the chef plus wine tasting. We were the only customers there for almost an hour and a half. It was like a private event. The wine maker spent about a half hour talking to us and answering questions. My wife loved it, especially because he's French.
Saturday we visited Garrison Brothers Distillery, Calais French Winery (Bordeaux style wines in an underground "cave" tasting room), Texas Mead Works and Alstadt Brewery. We enjoyed each of them. We capped off the day with dinner at Cabernet Grill Texas Wine Country Restaurant. We both had the chicken fried ribeye. It was just OK. Not sure what all the hoopla is around that. However, the service and ambiance were excellent. The warm goat cheese appetizer was amazing and the wife loved the Tiramisu dessert.
Sunday, we had a seated tasting at Signor Winery (voted most beautiful in Texas) along with an excellent charcuterie board. We also had a tasting at William Chris Winery and then went to the French Connection Winery for their Texas Two Step event. This consisted of gourmet French food bites paired with Rhne style French wines. It was really, really, good! For dinner, we ordered pizza from West End Pizza in Fredericksburg. Wow! Some of the best pizza we've had.
Monday we drove home with an obligatory stop at Buc-ee's in Bastrop for a BBQ sandwich. Always so good!
