5 day weekend at Rosewood in San Miguel de Allende with kid and grands for Dia de Muertos. It falls just right for next couple of years.

Then over to Botswana for a personal pilgrimage to a place called Kubu Island to pay homage to Top Gear and The Grand Tour TV shows (if you know you know, and yes I will be playing Brothers in Arms on the pans). Will be out in the middle of nowhere in northeast Botswana with nothing but the stars and a camping-equipped 4x4.
Just a few days into the trip and Samburu was already more amazing than I could've imagined. We've gotten incredibly lucky during our game drives.

I used a Sony a1II and 400mm f2.8 for nearly all of these (the last one was an iPhone shot).

Certainly don't need that level of gear though (that setup is roughly $18k). I would say a full-frame camera and a lens that covers 100-400ish should be fine.

serious question; how long does an $18k setup last before it's a bit outdated and then obsolete?

Are you getting a decade out of that, or not even close?

The lenses last longer than the camera bodies for sure, I rotate out camera bodies fairly often but I'll have that lens forever.

Did the Star Party last night. Absolutely worth it! Thank you!

We were shocked by the number of people there. Where do they come from? There's nothing out here. Parking lot was full and at least 4 full tour busses. Plenty of room for everyone though.

Staff was great and informative.
