I am planning on taking the family to the Alps the week of Christmas. The kids would like to ski but there are others that are looking to relax and enjoy the area. Does anyone have any recommendations for location (France, Austria, Switzerland, Italy) and lodging. We plan to spend a week there and would like a chalet.

Hi! I'd be happy to help with the trip or just recommend a few options but would have a few questions…

1. How old are the kids?
2. Are they beginners, intermediate, or advanced skiers?
3. Do you want a ski in / ski out?
4. Do you want a quieter, traditional village or a lively resort town?
5. Do you want a white Christmas with guaranteed snow?
6. Are they interested in Christmas markets or festive activities?

Italy and Austria are generally more affordable than France and Switzerland. But given that Christmas is only a few months away the chalet availability is gonna probably drive where you can go.

Not a chalet, but the Kempinski Berchtesgaden has availability over the holiday. You are on the slops there. Berchtesgaden has a small Xmas market; Salzburg is stones throw away with a really good one.
