My wife and I are staying at The Esperanza for 3 nights in a couple weeks. What are the cant miss things to see in the area?
Worth renting a car to go to Todos Santos or San Jose del Cabo?
Anything to do outside of the busy tourist center?

Morning fishing. Lunch and margaritas around the marina. Pool, drinks, and some extra curricular back at the resort. Dinner. Bed.

Esperanza is awesome.

Brunch at Flora Farms one morning is worth the drive.

You have to go see the Arco (the arch), it's a rock formation pirates used to hide behind, pretty much at the very tip of Cabo San Lucas. Incredibly beautiful and serene, about $20 for a private boat round trip 4 years ago, seriously you can negotiate and really not far from the docks/land. The private boats will take you and drop you at the beach there and pick you up pretty much whenever you want, think water taxis.

Took some very memorable pics there.

Talk to me about fishing. My wife and I are both pretty avid fly fishers so we love the sport but not so much the seasickness that can come with deep sea boats.

If you are susceptible to sea sickness, that is a possibility. However, you are not going out very far and you typically near the shoreline or at least in lune of sight. Also depends on size of vessel. The larger the better but not necessarily a cure all.

I do not get sea sickness any longer so I dont worry about it.

I will say the waters are typically "calm" but i have also been exposed to 10ft plus waves which was absolutely horrible.

Worst case, tell the captain at any point in the trip that you have had enough and want to go back to the marina.

I have been on no less than 20 fishing trips to Cabo and never regretted it. Even when we got stuck out in the storm. Always fun times.

This was one of the best fishing trips I have ever been on. Captain LaMosca is awesome and works. Not cheap, but worth it. Caught a bunch of Sierra, and that is what I wanted to target. Cannot recommend this enough.

I'll have to keep this guide in mind. I'd love to get a rooster on fly. Looks like his full day charter is $575. That is a steal!

There are additional fees, like renting the fly rods, bait and flies. Mine was closer to $800, I think, but it was 2-3 years ago.
Capt Juan would tease up the Sierra with a big topwater with no hooks. Once they were on the topwater, he would tell me to cast. I had to cast pretty well to get hits. Was my first time throwing an 8wt and it about broke my shoulder. I thought I was going to need surgery afterwards. I couldn't do the full day by myself. But, Capt Juan was working that topwater all day. Dude made 5x the casts I did and worked them in each time. That ain't easy. He was using a conventional rod and reel, but that is still a lot of work.

An early morning hike to the top of Lands End is hard to beat. Views are pretty spectacular. This was a few weeks ago.

We always try to do a day trip to San Jose del Cabo to walk around to shop, eat, and enjoy a few beverages.
Dalton's Gin Bar was a favorite as is Baja Brewing. La Lupita has great tacos and Agave for dinner on their rooftop is so much fun!

A few years ago we did the dinner cruise Animalon by the Sea - but I think they have since sold. The sunset dinner cruises are so much fun though!

I would echo brunch at Flora Farms, but also you're staying at probably the top resort in Cabo in my opinion. Food and accommodations. Not much need to leave the resort especially if you've got the hot tub on the balcony!

We love San Jose del Cabo

La Lupita Taco & Mezcal is a great spot for tacos and drinks.
Semillon is a fantastic upscale dinner spot. Very cool experience all around with great food and drinks.

We also did a tequila tasting at Santos Destilados in Cabo that was a lot of fun. We did the private tasting and it was very informative, good tequila, and a perfect start to the afternoon.

Sunset cruise on the Rissalena. Always an awesome time. Careful with the margaritas.

Also, don't go near the water unless it's a designated swimming area. Many a story of people on a beach walk being swept into the ocean.

As to the fishing, you aren't likely going very far off shore, maybe 30-40 mins. Sea of Cortez gets deep very quickly.

If you're interested in surfing, I recommend driving over to San Jose and checking out Cabo Surf Hotel. It's a really cool little boutique hotel with a private beach that is perfect for surfing. They offer lessons and rentals and it's a pretty cool spot to hang out for an afternoon.

They have world class billfish fishing, so that would be my recommendation, but you can also stay close and go for rooster fish in the surf. I have not done that yet, but it looks like fun.

We have taken our catch to their restaurant, 7 Seas, twice and twice they have hit it out of the park. Phenomenal job. Service was great and the view is great. You get to watch the surfers from your table. It is a neat little cove. It is much closer to San Jose, but not a bad ride from Cabo San Lucas.

Oh good to know. We always stay in CSL but only did the Surf Hotel as part of a day trip to San Jose. Very cool spot and good surfing, at least for us novices.

The arch is pretty neat. It has kinda become a meme but it's worth seeing. Depending on weather it can be really choppy there but you're near the shore the entire time.
