Has anyone used a luggage storage service in Manhattan? If so, any recommendations? Google recommends Luggage Hero, but I've never done hourly luggage storage, so not sure if I need to be wary of some places. I'll likely have 3 carry-on and 2 full size bags.

Not Manhattan but I've used Smarte Carte at SEA with no issues. They have a location with storage at JFK too.

Likely stating obvious, but have you asked the hotel you are staying? Might try that route first. I've left with bellman in NYC in past, was uneasy at first, but they had a robust system and there were many people doing the same.

Good idea but we're not staying at a hotel. We have a very long layover in New York, so we are planning to spend 3-4 hours in and around Times Square.

What is your mode of transport? Plane/train/other?

Flying into LGA on United and out of JFK on Emirates. We have a 9-hour layover. Wife and I have spent some time in NYC and are comfortable with using public transportation to get to/from Times Square. Our 3 teens will be with us. They've never been to NYC and we have to change airports anyway, so we figured we have plenty of time to see a few things. We'll have our bags with us since we are changing airports and am looking for a place around Times Square to store them for 3-4 hours. We will be traveling fairly lightly....likely 3 carry on size bags and 1 (maybe 2) full size bags.

That's a tricky one since LGA and JFK are kind of far apart and not really close to Manhattan either.

I just flew via JFK back in February where I had to switch from JetBlue to Singapore and with all the construction at JFK, getting between terminals was a major hassle.

What I'd look at doing is maybe see about booking a hotel room for the day. I think it was on this board recently where somebody had a web site that specialized in using hotel rooms during the day only.

If you could get one in Manhattan, that would solve your luggage storage problem plus give you a base of operations. I took my family to Manhattan for Thanksgiving 2018 and we stayed at the Moxy Times Square. Great location for a bunch of touristy stuff you'd want to do. Good luck!

EDIT: Quick Internet search shows a site called dayuse.com that might be what you're looking for.

I used Luggage Hero in Boston but no experience in NYC. I just looked for places with plenty of high reviews in my area. It was a convenience store that seemed super shady when we showed up lol, but had an AirTag in the bags and was able to keep an eye on them throughout the day.

We used luggage hero for a Cubs game at Wrigley last summer. Great service and no issues.

I recently checked my luggage with the bell hop of a big Marriott hotel in another city, while I went out to lunch. I was not staying there.

I figured I would report back. We ended up using Bounce instead of Luggage Hero because they seemed to have a more extensive network and had higher insurance coverage. Using Bounce, we stored our luggage at a Chinese restaurant in Times Square, a custom leather shoe shop in Florence and a hotel in Rome. I was a little nervous at first, but the process was very smooth and everything went great.

Bounce only had daily rates whereas Luggage Hero offered hourly rates. However, Luggage Hero added fees Bounce didn't so the cost was roughly the same if storing for more than 3 hours.

In Paris we used Stasher.com

they hooked us up with a restaurant who had an empty storeroom. We had 10 large suitcases and it worked like a charm. Cost $60 for full day. Right next door to the train station.

I have used Luggage Hero before I think, IIRC it went smoothly.

Hotels will do it too for the most part.
