SWA now talking about charging you a fee to reserve bin space as a solution for lack of bin space.

That is an unmanageable disaster. Goodness.

More fees are always the solution for the airlines. The absolute nuisance of everybody trying to overpack everything into their carryons and stuff them into undersized overhead bins came about because they started charging bag fees. If they would just raise the fare price $25 and give you one free bag, this would be a non-issue.

Yeah, but for SWA they went from advertising themselves as the no fee airline once upon a time to now charging fees above and beyond what other airlines even do. It's wild.

Charging for bags before they moved to assigned seating has been an operational and PR mess.

If the hedge fund forcing all these changes on them were trying to turn them into Spirit Airlines 2.0, what exactly would they be doing differently?

Maybe. But the free checked bags didn't solve this problem for SWA before. It's because people are tired of airlines losing their bags with connections.

If flying direct, ok maybe. Connecting? Man you're rolling the dice of actually seeing your bag at the end.

Not sure I understand the question. Elliott certainly forced most of this and while I think SWA needed a kick in the pants I doubt they would have made this much change if Elliott had not entered the picture.

I was trying to say that Elliott is forcing them to do everything necessary to become Spirit 2.0. They needed to make some changes, particularly to their technology and systems integrations. But becoming exactly like the worst airlines in the US except for more expensive fares shouldn't be the goal.

We've stopped flying swa unless it's love field.

They are more expensive and have worst schedules 80% of the time. Sad. Used to fly swa domestically 100%

Yup. Status year reset for American so I'm back to grinding for exec platinum. Once hit, I'll begrudgingly switch to SWA since love field is so much easier to deal with.

DFW is a mess right now.

Speaking of leaving swa, what's y'all's favorite credit cards for air/travel for casual traveling? Just stick to a Amex or something?

I like transferable credits, Chase has been the one I've been with because SW & Hyatt because those have the best value for my family/situation. Some will swear by capital one, others Amex, and maybe Citi, but they've taken a hit since I started following.
