My son and I went summer 2022. I think I did a trip report. Let me see if I can find it.

Here you go.

Something I didn't mention in that trip report was a little "excursion" we took to this old abandoned church and a waterfall hike that was there.

The church and the hike are at a lake called Lagoa das Furnas. I can't find the name of the waterfall at the moment, but it and the hike were really beautiful.

This is the church.

Waterfall is Salto do Rosal.

My parents met at Lajes AFB on Terceira back in the 60s. Got to take a trip with my dad back around 2016 IIRC.

There's a great website that does deals on trips to the Azores. REALLY good getaway deals depending on the time of the year.

You should go to Sao Miguel...there's a lot to see there. Sete Cidades, Furnas, Lago de Fogo. And just the drive around the island is cool.

But, also some of the other islands.

We did a couple days on Terceira and you can drive around the entire island, stopping to takes pics, in about 3 hrs. But it was really nice. Angra de Heroismo and Praia Vitoria were really great places to see. Miradouro da Serra do Cume gives great views of the island from way up high.

Plus, just seeing the scenery and architecture. We got stuck on a road and had to go the speed of cow because the farmer was walking his cows to the dairy.

I recommend it to anyone who wants to go somewhere great AND different.

ETA: the food is fantastic. We had a lobster that was bigger than any I've ever seen in my life. And they have lots Portuguese food. If you make it to Terceira, make sure to get the Alcatra.
