I'm heading off to SE Asia for 6 weeks and considering going the esim route rather than purchasing a new card in each country. Has anyone done this? I typically just grab a sim card in the airport, so I don't have any experience with esims. Going to Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, and Bali...if that makes a difference.

I havent heard much on these, but I have seen some youtube videos that there are a lot more scams with sim cards now. One video said to not buy the at the BKK airport and only get it at a 7 eleven or authorized place outside the airports. First I have heard of this and seems odd.

I use Airalo when I'm in SE Asia.

Who is your carrier here? If TMobile you might already be set. I'm pleasantly surprised with their international data and texting at no additional charge whenever I go out of the country. I'm on a grandfathered One plan but I think Magenta has the same deal.

I use Holafly. I live in Switzerland and have a broad Europe phone plan…however, when traveling outside my region, I go the eSim route for unlimited data. I've used it in the USA, Thailand and Malaysia. I'm actually using it right now typing this message in Kuala Lumpur.

I don't need to call anyone via mobile #. I just use WhatsApp.
Data roaming is unlimited and very good connectivity.

Same.

Pretty seamless. You can purchase before your trip and install the e-SIM. Once you land at your destination, just activate the e-SIM and you're good to go.
