Just pre board with family or other. Airlines never ask why they just board you... SW needs to upgrade their seating policy as it is a real crap show unless your traveling by yourself!!!

Southwest only lets families with kids age 6 and under board between groups A and B. At least that's what was announced on our flight yesterday.

Preboarding before A group has even stricter requirements - basically just wheelchair and military.
You can also claim agoraphobia at check in and get a preboard authorization.

so you are ok with lying to get pre-board, but not ok with the poster above who boards his family with his purchased A list?

I did not say I am okay with it. Just saying what I have seen done.

I have stood at A1 enough times to hear all sorts of things.

Best thing to do when passing check in person is to look on screen and see how full the flight is. Next best thing is to sit in Row 9 or 17 on short haul non 737-MAX planes to ensure you get your drink order in. 9 if alone, 17 if traveling with family and needing to save a seat.

"thumbs up" icon made it seem like you were suggesting it as an option for people, so apologies if i misinterpreted.

No worries and no apologies necessary, I see where I could have been misleading.

Also, technically only one family member may preboard with someone needing assistance. In Memphis, this means half the plane boards with Grandma.

It is funny how the passengers at different airports seem to have their own "personality". There are definitely some airports and routes that have way more passengers in wheelchairs than others. MCO and family boarding is chaos, for obvious reasons.

And then there's always one or two passengers on every flight who think the rules don't apply to them. I think we were going MCO->IAH and there was one lady who thought she was SJL and just waltzed right up to the front of the A boarding line, cutting in front of everyone else. Even the gate agent was annoyed, but she just rolled her eyes and let her go. Not a battle worth fighting, I guess.

I'd say if you feel the need to save a seat for someone, then you should not be flying southwest. Literally every other airline allows you to pick your seats.

If it was a blonde-haired white lady going from MCO to DAL then it would almost certainly have been my friend. She wanted my wife to tag along as a co-conspirator, which I did not allow.

That's not really a fair rule to expect people to live by.

For example, there are a lot of reasons one might prefer to fly out of HOU rather than Bush. Southwest might have much better flight options to a particular airport. I personally prefer a 737 over an Embraer jet (which is what United seems to be using on a lot of domestic flights since Covid).

Also, if everyone else is saving seats, and you are the only person being "honest"…well, if you can't beat 'em, might as well join 'em.

I'm not saying don't fly southwest. I'm saying, don't save a seat if you do. Board together, accept the fact you may not be next to each other.

It's part of the decision you make when you fly SW. You can't pick your seat. Don't be a cheapass and get only 1 alist/earlybird for your party and hold seats.

I used to feel this way…until I started seeing so many people save seats. No one confronts the people who do this, and the FAs don't prevent it. So, as long as it's not an exit row seat, I'm adjusting my moral high ground for this one. Not gonna sit alone in in the last row, next to the bathroom, in a middle seat just to stay on my high horse.

Now, that lady with the cane the poster described on the previous page…she should be banished to purgatory via boarding group C.
