It's not just United. Southwest has been really expensive lately, too, especially if you want to go anywhere interesting. We are going to Phoenix/Sedona for Spring Break because it was one of the few domestic tickets that was under $400. I saw plenty of domestic flights that were $600-$800, depending on date and time you wanted to fly.
You can still get a deal with them, if your travel dates are flexible. And I'm counting the days until that happens for me. But, realistically, if you want to plan a trip around a holiday or weekend to make the most of your vacation time, you're going to pay a premium for it.
Shout out to JMac03 - she's been fantastic to work with. I may not end up booking with her, only because we are prob going to end up on United flights and it will be cheaper to book those through the website.
But she was able to find flight options that I cannot see. I also learned that there are itineraries offered to me that she can't get. I consider myself pretty travel-savvy, and this booking has been a learning experience for me.
