Our place in Ingram should get 3 or 4 minutes of totality.

Family ranch will get just about 1 minute of totality near Cameron, TX. Our house in McKinney will get 3 minutes. Might get up early and drive to Commerce, TX to get 4 minutes

I live in Kerrville. City and county leaders have been discussing this event since at least last year, expecting a mass of visitors with all the associated pros and cons.

Ditto for Fredericksburg
The last thing I want to do is hurt you. But, it's still on the list.

Of course this all assuming it's a clear or mostly day

For those who live in an area close but not quite in the center of the shadow, you have a tough decision to make. If you are outside the area of totality, like at 99%, that's a definite no, find a place to camp out for the day that's in the area of totality. For those who will have less than 90 seconds, I'd probably also move. But if I had less than the full 4 minutes, but more than 90 seconds, I think I'd stay put to avoid (and not contribute to) the traffic and congestion, which is going to be epic.

I work in Fredericksburg. Gonna get it coming and going.

Problem is, it is impossible to predict how many people will come here for the event. Some fantastical numbers like 300,000 visitors have been tossed out, which has some locals reacting from a range of dread to panic to entrepreneurial brainstorming on how to make money from it all.

After the 2017 event I researched this one and saw the line of totality goes exactly over the Buckhorn Lake Resort on 1-10 and Goat Creek Road just west of Kerrville. Anyone who got a spot there is in the absolute perfect location.

300k might not be enough. Astronerds are a passionate group and they'll travel in their RVs and fifth wheels for something like this.

I don't know how you predict it... 300K seems high for Fredericksburg alone, but that's obviously way too low for the state.

If you are a city or business leader, this is really, really tricky. I think many will say that while it's a big event, the $$$ opportunity is too risky to invest too much in resources. You could put a lot toward this, and then the weather doesn't work out and you have no one. And it's just a one day event, regardless.

I think many will, at the end of the day, conclude that they have to take care of public safety, do what they can to facilitate traffic flow, and just let the chips fall where they may.

So if I live on the NW side of Fort Worth (820/35), the map shows I'm inside the totality zone. I saw a chart that said I'll have about 1 min of totality.

Worth it to drive somewhere else to see it??
