If CC (or someone else) went for 1 RBI per game, would that set a team or MLB record?

And a random "what if", if we had that production last year, how many games would we have won instead of lost?

MLB record for most RBI in a season is 191 by Hack Wilson, so not the MLB record. But it would be an Astros record.

The MLB record is 191 by Hack Wilson in 1930. 162 would be tied for 19th best. The high in the last 30 seasons was 165 by Manny in 1999.

If we had 1 more run per game last season, we'd have maybe 8 or 9 more wins. We lost 17 1 run games last year. If we split those extra-inning games, our 87 wins would turn to 94-95. Missed payoffs to the Division Winner with a BYE.

That Richard Hidalgo number shows whey the Astros bet on him instead of Abreu.

He was on pace to break 160.

Julio has to be so frustrating to watch as a Mariner's fan.

Most of the time he's mediocre as hell but he gets absolutely white hot a couple times a year to redeem his numbers and persuade everyone to think he's elite.

Reminds me of Bregman's final couple of seasons with us.

Dude was one hell of a player before he got shot in Venezuela that offseason.

My memory is fuzzy and I don't recall the entire details but I believe that's when he started to go downhill.

I've always thought Julio Rodriguez was overrated. Good player? Yes. But I saw something a few weeks ago on MLB Network that was talking about him as top 5 in MLB. IMO that's ridiculous.

I actually think he's loved by them.

His 2024 season was kind of a dud, but He's had 3 seasons of an OPS of .853 (2022), .813 (2023), .798 (2025). 1 really good season and 2 good seasons. He's hit around 30 HR in each of those season and was part of the 30-30 club in 2023 and 2025. On top of that, he plays excellent CF defense with a cannon.

His deal is complicated, but until 2029 his base salary is 7 years for $105M. PCA just signed for 6 years for $115M. They are currently getting a steal for him right now.

We can say his OPS numbers are trending down, but that fan base is not going to be frustrated with him until he starts posting OPS numbers of .750 or less multiple years in a row.

Fangraphs has his 2025 season as the 16th best WAR at 5.7 and Baseball Reference has his 2025 season as the 8th best WAR at 6.8.

He's certainly not top 5 in MLB, unless you're talking about production to contract value, then he might. But, he is more than just a good player - I'd categorize him as a really good player.

Julio gets bonus points for playing a plus center field and baserunner. As a pure hitter's good, not great. Too much swing and miss and doesn't get on base enough (walks). I'd gladly take him as our CF for the next near decade.

A lot of his value is tied up in his defense and baserunning. That said, I'm sure most people could name more than 8 players they'd rather have.

Polar opposite both here and aggie baseball from where I was last year, already in dumps. The faint glimmer of hope is still there and my soul has yet to be ripped out of my heart here in 2026

I have to admit I am nothing but a bandwagon fan for A&M baseball. Also a wooden bat snob.

While football is the most important sport at Texas A&M, baseball is my favorite sport at A&M.

If we ever get D1 men's (and hopefully women's too) ice hockey, baseball will shift down to my second favorite sport at A&M.

Somehow the Astros are two spots below the BoSox whom they just swept in three dominating games.

just an extension of preseason talk, we'll move up if we're in first after the Seattle series.

meanwhile: (I'm glad Brandon Lowe is no longer in the AL lol)

More about our GOAT

Farmer1906
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Lowe is probably the most slept on 2B over the last 10-15 years. Altuve is the clear #1. Then you have Semien and Marte fighting for 2/3. After that? I'd probably take Lowe's career ahead of Donny, McNeil, Arraez, Torres, Jazz, LeMaheu, or Albies.

Good!

Let them keep discounting this team.

All these pundits fail to realize this team barely missed the playoffs last year with Yordan basically 60% for only 48 games.

Yes, we lost some pitching and outfield is a big question mark -- but Yordan is a game changer for this offense.

Add the new hitting approach and a refreshed Altuve, the offense is back. Crochet is no slouch, and they made him look like a JAG yesterday.

Also -- I'll say it again -- "I'm not buying what Seattle is selling." Something was going on last year, similar to what happened with the Rangers in 2023. The Big Dumpster is going to get closer to his career averages this year. The 60 HRs was an anomaly.

I still think the Astros can win 93 games.
