Definitely sucks for Salazar, but either way the Astros have a massive downgrade at the backup catcher position this season.

Frankly, is there any position on the roster where we have upgraded?

0.182 BA 1 RBI, 0.627 OPS. Very small sample size though.

We've seen enough of Salazar over the years to confirm he's a zero as a hitter. Not a bad catcher, but Vasquez is probably similar defensively and may have a little something left in his bat. Neither of them bring anything close to what Caratini provided offensively.

I mean literally every week there was discussion about wanting a catcher, we sign a veteran backup…if you don't see that coming as soon as the signing you had your head in the sand

Not directly Astros related but this is Barry's nephew. I could see Dana targeting him as he's very similar to Ethan Frey as a huge guy who is still athletic and raw.

feels like they will run Lance through a few times in the rotation, he will prove he doesn't have it and can't consistently get major league hitters out, and they will release him or he will "retire." My guess is he doesn't make it out of April.

Then Spaghetti will get the 5th spot and whoever is next in line (Weiss, Blueballs, etc.) will be the sixth guy when they need one.

Was starting to gain a little optimism for the season, but I didn't fully appreciate how unfavorably viewed our rotation is by projection systems. A bottom third unit in the league. How far our rotation has fallen in 3 years…

Need multiple pitchers to take a massive leap to have a chance at true contention in the division in my opinion
