How do they track this? Was just reading about the lady at the Brewers game that went off on the Dodgers fan, and it said they were banned from the ballpark; how do they track this? How do they stop the person from returning? I assume they can put a note on their ticket provider account, but like many of us, one person may have all the tickets on their phone, so they could still get in, right?

I've always wondered about that.... Especially when you read that someone is "banned for life" from a particular stadium.

Never could figure out how they enforce that, if they even can.

I think it's more of a legal thing than anything else.

You take the easy steps of disabling their Ballpark app, but that can be easily circumvented -- and most stadiums don't have full blown facial recognition (yet).

But the idea is once they've been banned, if they are caught at the stadium then it's criminal trespassing.

I think they usually void any other tickets they can identify as being bought by that fan, so that's the immediate "enforcement."

Otherwise, I think its mostly a deterrent. If they come back and are caught, you get locked up as noted above.


There is an increasing body of technology that they can use to enforce bans, however. A lot of that is coming from Europe and its soccer teams, where there have long been much more strict rules around re-selling tickets, keeping home/away fans separated, alcohol, etc. They're getting pretty good at being able to track ticket sales and who is using them.

Not baseball, but ESPN had an article a couple of months ago about a ban list at MSG, that touched on some of the methods they use to enforce bans.
