The regionals have been good. Lamar LL won the SW Regional yesterday.

Defending Champ St Mary's, FL just got walked off in the SE Regional Championship. They were up 4-0 in the bottom of 6 with 2 outs. They walked in a run, bringing up South Carolina's big hitter. St Mary's intentionally walked him with the bases loaded to make it 4-2. Next guy hit a walk off 3 run double to win it for SC.

I do think it's stupid to play a double elimination tourney, then make the championship winner take all. Lamar lost to LA, the beat them in the championship once to advance. Florida was unbeaten and beat SC 14-0 last game only to lose the championship. Florida is imo the best team in the country, and now they will watch from home.

I felt terrible for that kid from New Jersey that got called out for sliding head first for the final out as the tying run was scoring. Good news is it looks like they get a rematch today. I know its the rules, but I'm sure it was just instincts from a kid that probably plays very little LL and a bunch of travel ball.

I agree about the "modified" double elimination format.
Also, the Florida team had this player rejoin the team today after playing for Team USA in the WBSC U-12 Baseball World Cup.

That Utah/Nevada game last night was crazy. Utah jumps out to a 8-0 lead, and then gets run-ruled 22-12.

I mean this is what makes me not really feel sorry for him/the team. I feel like it's kids who play travel ball and do the bare minimum for LL when they're at this age so they can go to the LLWS....

What's the bare minimum? They have to play in the required amount of league games.

All of these kids still playing now, play select. Most of the LL only kids these days can't catch or throw.

Watching the LLWS Illinois vs. Ohio.

Batter got plunked by an inside pitch. He runs to 1B.

He then reaches down, grabs a handfull of dirt, and rubs it on the arm where he was hit.

Good stuff.

if LL would adapt and play real baseball it could retain more of its talent. Unfortunately it does absolutely nothing to prepare a young man for high school baseball. move to 70 ft bases, open them up and move the fences back 40 ft for 12u

This.

There's probably not an all star team in the country that's not made up of kids who play select.

not a thing any of us should care about when the Chinese Taipei kids play together and live together for like 5 years….. or at least until they are 30…….

that pitcher they had 2 years ago was 19 years old……. And it was a disgrace, Save me the Danny Almonte crap. The Latin kids are just as bad. He was from Latin America, so that helped them hide it, When was the last "whistleblower" from Taiwan or Curaao??? Yeah. They don't have any,

we are 10 times more fair at this than 90% of the other countries,

Heh remember that Jackie Robinson West team? Basically took kids from all over that area, won the US Championship, were paraded around by Obama et al, and then it was found out they had cheated and had to forfeit everything. Sure, that's one instance, but it was really interesting.

If that's what they call it, yeah.

That, and all the pastel arm bands, shoes, helmets, etc.

Why cant boys just be boys? No need to feminize everything.

I guess you haven't watched much baseball the past 20 years? Hell, the 2007-2009 Stealth bats which changed high school & college baseball were neon Orange and the 2017 Zen which led to USA bat standards was pastel green.

The stealth bats were awesome. This pastel stuff, not so awesome.

I can't tell you how many bats I purchased between 2006 and 2018. I just didn't purchase any that look like girls bats.

Kids are all wearing pastel and neon stuff like the late-80's only back then they didn't have it in sports gear. Nothing has been "feminized," they just see older players (starting in the pro ranks) wearing all kinds of "drip" and it trickles down. Especially to the HS-age older brothers of these kids.

You don't see it in college as much because they're all wearing team gear but otherwise kids are wearing all this stuff at all ages.

That being said, we're "anti-drip" in this house. Probably stems from my playing sports in the 90's which was the peak "blackout" look era and in baseball & football wearing black cleats, gloves, wristbands, etc (and dark face shields in football) was the hardcore badass look.

In the past it was 70% of the teams scheduled games.

And the reason LL kids cant catch or throw is because their parents don't spend time with them playing catch

The distance between base paths on fields for 12-year-olds and below in baseball and in all divisions of softball is 60 feet. A local Little League board of directors may opt to use a 50-foot diamond in the Tee Ball divisions. The distance in all divisions of baseball for 13-year-olds, is up to 90 feet, with a local league option to shorten the distance to 75 feet for Junior League Baseball and 70 feet for Intermediate (50/70) Baseball Division for regular season play.

Or you just play Pony, which the majority of travel ball players in Cali play for rec/extra reps. Pony & travel ball age, field dimensions, etc are all aligned by age.

It is ridiculous seeing 12 year olds playing on 60 ft bases.
TarponChaser

The main game play rule that I think LL does get right is using USA bats instead of nuclear powered USSSA bats. Those things are ridiculously hot.

Not following what you're saying- USSSA, Perfect Game, PONY, etc all go to 50/70 at 11U & 12U. 13U is mostly 54/80 while some play 60/90. 14U and up is the big boy field at 60/90.

I was President of a LL program in 2010 and enthusiastically embraced the 50/70 division, and we were one of the first programs in Texas to have that division. We used our adult softball field, with fences of 275, and a portable mound.

A few years after my departure the program went to PONY, and I believe the entire district dissolved

And I think most of us are saying that those field dimensions are too small for 12U. Ironically, going to 60/90 at 13U is too big for most 13U.
