Why is AT&T's name being changed to Dallas Stadium for the World Cup? I understand that FIFA rules prohibit commercial names on stadiums, but they should call it Arlington Stadium or DFW Stadium if Arlington won't fit in the space. It is closer to Fort Worth than Dallas. Even Texas Stadium would have been more appropriate.

Probably because Dallas is the most recognizable of any of those options when it comes to having a bunch of international travelers planning out their trips. They all recognize Dallas. They wouldn't recognize Arlington or probably even FW. And Texas is far too broad considering there is another WC site in the state as well as being a massive state with multiple international airports.

Its the same reason that Metlife in NY is called NY Stadium, Gillette in Foxborough is Boston or Levi in San Jose is called San Francisco. They're the most recognizable cities near it.

The people of Arlington, TX who voted and gave Jerry Jones $325,000,000 in principal and $490,300,000 when considering interest for that stadium must feel proud. Dallas paid exactly $0.

I think it's much simpler. City of Dallas led the bid for the region. Dallas Sports Commission was in charge. Arlington, Frisco, Ft. Worth were brought in to partner/support the bid but it was definitely Dallas leading the way. Monica Paul is the main person for the World Cup Dallas and Exec Dir of the Dallas Sports Commission.
