If Texas backs out of the Notre Dame series in 2028 and 2029, they are legally and contractually obligated by the SEC to find a Power 4 nonconference replacement. Texas' most seamless, immediate call would be to Texas Tech. Otherwise, they will have to target Big Ten programs like USC or Penn State that do not have any Power 4 non-conference opponents in those years.

Nope. The non-con is the only way we can evaluate the conference's against each other before the post season. Stop wasting 3 weeks of everyone's time on cupcake games that add a meaningless W. Who cares if you pickup an extra loss.
Imagine if the NFL played semi pro teams the first 3 weeks of the season and they counted towards W/L record so that at the end of the season that meaningless win actually affected the final standings. That is what you want CFB to be.

The reason to schedule these games is fan service and for the health of the sport...I do not think the people at the top really care about either and if it makes more sense $ wise and improves your odds to make the playoffs, everyone will only be playing bums in the OOC.
Please don't use Tulsa as an example of a game you are supposed to win. It brings back bad memories.
Nobody should play Notre Dame. They should be forced to join a conference if they want to be relevant.

Because tu has the benefit of an incredibly compliant media machine that is expected to place them in the top 5 pretty much every year, regardless of how good they actually are. If they continuously are placed at the top of the pile before the season starts, then the only place to go is down.
Contrast that with the Ags, who are normally ranked at OR BELOW where they would be, especially compared with tu's rankings. In other words, A&M has to prove itself annually to make its way INTO the national conversation, where tu is consistently given the benefit of a padded ranking before the season starts.
Two groups benefit from not playing challenging OOC schedules: The perennial blue bloods, and the potential Cinderallas.
The Ags are in neither of those groups, so we have to risk a competitive OOC game to get noticed.

We just need to go 10-2 or better with a 9 game SEC schedule. That's it. Same as any other SEC school.
Our non conference games should just be prep for the SEC schedule.

Or you could have just beat a 4-8 team and still lose to Ohio State. Sips are as bad as Sorsby not owning up to their mistakes.
